81 YZ465 been in storage since it was flipped shortly after birth. Too bad it is extremely humid here or this one would be damn near perfect. Maybe has a few hours ride time on it total. Original tires, even has the kickstand!! Levers are missing, chain is rusty, came with the enduro pouch on the crossbar. Cost me about as much as a top end rebuild costs all those fools with modern 4 bangers. Pictures suck, but the bike is pretty sweet.

Hey newmann nice bike! I just wanted to share my bike with you. Mines pretty much the same. I got this bike from the original owner came with the title dated from october of 1980. As you can tell it has low hours. Still has orginal tires and tank stickers.

What are the chances two barely used 81 YZ465's turn up in damn near the same month?? Keep in mind that the perfect condition side panels are worth a small fortune these days. I'm going to pull all the stock plastic (tank included) and replace it with new stuff from the XYZ guys since I'm going to ride mine. Keeping my eyes out for a nice set of spare wheels too, don't want to tear up the originals too bad. People are starting to pay goofy money for some of this later model vintage /evolution stuff.

Joe - I know a guy that has a set of used White Euro plastic off a YZ465 he just got.....Tank, side panels and fenders.......with some elbow grease, they could be made pretty decent for a racer. Let me know if you want his number. Mike

Hey thanks for the complements. Guessing you must have found the pics on my profile. Sorry I couldn't get them to show up in the message. I don't really plan to ride this bike. I have one other 465 that I race and ride a little. Just a real neat piece of history to show off.

Hi, I just found this forum. Post # 1. I have two 1980 YZ465's, but they're far from pristine like these. However, I did just find a '78 YZ400E in original, "Barn Fresh" condition on Craigslist for $600!
I'll post some pictures ASAP. These old bikes are great fun, but I'll warn you, they are addictive.

Ahh the good o'l days.
That was a pretty easy bike to ride, not quite as nimble as the Maico, but I had fun on it.

That is an extraordinary find!

Wednesday I am picking up a completely restored 82 IT425 (same monoshock as the 81 YZ465). It has the original blue plastic with it, currently has the white euro look plastic on it.

Any tips on a good source for yellow YZ plastic?

thanks!

Joe

ps- anyone have any info on the White Power shock valving and the fork damper kits? Thanks!

A little Freudian slip there .......Josef "Stalag 14" Reitmann!? Ja!?

I think you actually meant "White Brothers" suspension info........ha ha

Might want to to try this guy below....he is a suspension guy on old Yamaha's and got my friends 1981 YZ465 working very nicely....

Isn't WP White Power? I'm pretty sure thats a company but I could be brainfarting. lol. http://www.wpsuspension.com/
AHHH, yes Grasshopper, WP is the now-PC name for what was once known as White Power suspension.....

However young Grasshopper, back in the day it were the "White Brothers", Dan and Tom, that were the Gurus of improving the Yamaha Mono-X suspension.......

Contact Scott at www.x-tremevintageyz.com if you can get him or anyone there on the phone. Great stuff, hard to contact though. Don't give up. If you give up, then call Rick at www.vintageiron.com as he has the exact same product I believe. You can buy the tank, graphics, front and rear fenders and side panels(even works translucent ones) as a kit.

LOL- I think they are both reputable suspension shops... Smile

I may have my local suspension guy in Woodstock GA give that shop a call

Thanks!

ps- picked up the bike Monday night. Spent the last 2 nights until almost 2 am up late attending to details! Working on it brought back memories of racing YZ125's in the early 80's!

A YZ465 can beat a cr450f in a drag race, think about that for a minute.
