krazee1- I have so many crash shots from Saddleback that I think I will have a "Crash 'n Burn" section. And just like in your mini pile-up, I believe that most of them got back on the saddle again.
anniebertmoto- Wow, I didn't realize that Tony D was such a wild man! Yes, I could probably work with that contact sheet from his birthday party...will try to bring it back to life. You can contact me at tcestudios@netzero.net.
Ozy- Hello John. Just tap the blue search bar on the site without putting in a bike number. Thumbnails will come up 20 at a time straight to 1200+.

Ozy- John, give me your bike numbers from the day and I will see what I can find of you.
anniebertmojo- I just got your email and will get in touch with you about the Tony D contact sheet. Perhaps we can let others view a not so wild shot of him.

By the time the mini classes up here were in full bloom, all my equipment got stolen at E st......I also raced at the time. Gave up the pics instead of the bikes..
I will never forget the shock when I saw the Bunch, Simmet, Flemming tragedy. Who can ever forget. Still remember the day I got my CN and read it.
'77 Hangtown; Wards first National on FMF Suzuki #336.....pretty sure. Magoo rode that 125 National also on the RM...#594....
I got a good bit from that Sears race; and a bunch from local stuff; like mentioned all on slides...half of them I didn't write who they were so more "who's this?"
When I get that scanner, will share away.
Thanks for your pics and stories.

I raced a lot of ssmx in 83 #516 but I have a mini view from 82 # E7 out of control feet off the pegs headed straight for the photographer I remember him running to get out of the way just missing him

No worries Tom - looking forward to sharing. As a teenager growing up in the industry racing and working in the early to mid-80's, I was able to witness MX at it's finest...on and off the track

andymoto - Whatever happened to Leon Ellis ? I remember he was on the old Motodrive forum and said he had a bunch of pics that he would try to post. Did he ever make it over here to Vital or does he even know about it ?

Leon is doing fine. Just working his tail off.
He sent me some pics that I couldn't figure out how to open until recently.
Not sure if these are the ones he was referring to, but the pics were nice and prob the ones he mentioned.
I talk to him periodically and will again soon; I'll mention the pics and Vital.

I'm so fired up that somebody is taking the time to archive all these pictures from the 1970's in SoCal. I was an awesome time to be alive and race dirtbikes!
You are a superstar, Tom, for taking on this job - Many, many thanks.
in 75 I rode a CR125R Elsinore and I think I ran #34. in 1976 I was on a YZ125 (with the speedometer looking tanks on top of the forks) and I think I ran #34 then also. I did race SSM all summer in 75. I had my picture in cycle news about 3 times in the 70's but of course I can't find the issues I save.
Good luck with this project

andymoto- So sorry to here that someone stole your camera equipment. I will look forward to seeing some of your slides when they are scanned to life again.
dr516- I wrote down your bikes numbers and will go searching. Vic was the "Mini-Vues" man at Saddleback and it sounds like you hunted him down on your #E7 bike.
anniebertmojo- It's good to know who you are now. You have those wild shots from the Tony D birthday party and I just found the same from "Radical' Ron Turner's party. Craze and I went to his party after an Irwindale race and found Bruce McDougal in the mix of things too.
Ozy- You are welcome John! It's good to be at this job of archiving pictures from the '70s in SoCal. I wrote down #34 and have it right where I can see it.

Hey Tom great site! I was S98 @ CMC events and Saturday superfun days at Saddleback in the 70's, so far I have only been able to find 2 pics in the archives, I know there are many more somewhere, we used to buy those little viewers you sold @ the track as well as several prints I still have, Thanks, Dave

DAVEFOX- Thanks Dave! And yes, there is much, much, more to come. Those two shots of your S98 Husky are found at Photo ID: 14 and 17 on the site. Sorry that the negs were scanned backwards. Today was a good one as I located my earliest shots from '72 and '73 Saddleback. The ACA ran the show then and later became the AME under Jack Kell's direction.

Bauer- On July 6, 1979 the CMC held the inaugural event of Stadium Motocross at the Orange Show Fairgrounds in San Bernardino. You had the #45 plate out of the top 100 CMC pro riders. From that racing season I found four really good shots of you. #30 "Rocket" Rex Staten was your competition and I have a shot of you both taking off the starting line. The second shot was at the first turn where #2R Jerry Raymer fell and you were right behind him and being followed by #16 Bob Marino and #1 Tim Lunde. Then I took a good berm and a jump shot of you with no ground in sight. So yes, I've had some luck finding shots of Steve Bauer. I've got your email and will send you the info on how to see these four images.

Funny. Ok, I wouldn't ask anything again! MR50Racer in his post indicated "Hannah running a 100". I thought he ment he was riding a 100, not number 100. I wasn't there "Back in the day", so I was thinking that Hannah got on a 100 sometime early in his career.
I'll leave now and let those who were there enjoy the history.
Take care.

RufRedBaron- Cool car you've got there. Hey, maybe Hannah did ride a 100 at one time. Okay, I will just have to ask him. And you don't have to leave...the history of those great motocross days are for everyone to appreciate.
Craze- What's Up Dave? Have you heard from Walt and Scott? Send me an email please.

Tom,
I am thrilled that you are willing to dig out all those photos from back in the day.
man, how many times I have wished I had bought many more of the photos you took of me.... I only have a couple. I do have a small box full of "mini-vues" (I think that's they were called back then), though!
You may or may not remember me.... I rode Bultacos from 1972 through 1976, then switched to Yamahas from 1977 to 1980 or so. I had to retire due to injuries. CMC numbers were 99, 44, 46A, X98, 129, 444 and others.
You have done a great service to all of us riders, then, and now.
God Bless,
Jeff Deal

Craze - No derespect taken! I just felt stupid that I didn't think through the old Hannah #100 deal. I wish I could had been there to see what you guys witnessed. I grew -up in Ohio and spent many a cold winter night reading Minicycle Action, Motocross Action, etc., wishing I was out there living that life. I finally was able to make enough money in my teenage years to start buying used bikes and started racing them in the late 70's and early 80's. Never was much of a rider, but got to go to a lot of races and meet some neat people. Now I spend my time collecting some of the bikes I dreamed of as a kid and continue to meet neat people (and some of my heros) through Vintage Motocross.
Tom - I wish I could say that the Ruf in the picture is mine. It was owned by an acquaintance of mine. I was considering buying it until my job was eliminated and I found myself unemployed. Oh well, more time to work on vintage bikes. I am very envious of your photography. I considered going that route years ago after I had the opportunity to shoot some photos for a Motocross Accessory/Tuning Catalog. For a couple of years, I had photo passes to the Ponitac Silverdome and really thought being a pro photographer would be a great career. Then I had some magazines look at my shots and they suggested I pursue another career!
If you talk to Hannah, tell him he can contact me anytime to talk Warbirds. That's another interest of mine and we have some really neat stuff down here in Dallas that I would love to show him.
Thanks and take care.
