My first race was in the summer of 78', AME Fri nite International track at the Dunes.

3 races and they bumped you to the novice class, great program.

That was an experience I'll never forget.
Loved that 78' Husky 250CR

I raced a lot of the AME races in 1976 and 77'. The shop I rode out of (Pesky's Suzuki) took the AME shop trophy away from Cole Brothers in 77'.

Raced ame friday nights at the dunes, back than being ame #1 meant something.. still have my trophies from the 100 beginner class in my garage.. back than they would give you the trophy and send you the name plate a few weeks later with the event, the date and your name listed on it....racing changed overnight when the elsinore came out, before than if you didnt race a euro bike you raced a stripped down yamaha, suzuki or what have you..did the racing experiance get better or worse with the advent of the elsinore???

Yep first race on a 78 yz 125 I had been beating around on a 69 Yamaha 90 for awhile before the yz, a kid I knew in school raced. we (me and my dad) knew nothing about racing and I mean nothing had my lace up boots bmx pants and garden gloves went to the sign booth and the girl asks if I have ever ridden before and when I told her yes straight to the nov class I had no idea. Got my numbers 287 and away we went full gate and if I remember correctly I got 13th over all I do not recall my moto scores but we were hooked GREAT TIMES at the dunes

Was that it. My dad got one every week at dunes and in 81 I finally got my picture in it. I believe it was an AME Friday night race.

I lived AME for years. Jerry Shore and his wife, son and daughter were all very good friends of mine. I started racing the AME Friday night races on the mini track and then graduated to the International track on Friday night and Sunday. I did this for years.

I raced the 1980 Honda series that AME had. We raced all over the United States. It was the first multi states series I raced and it was a very good series and the Shore's were so great during that time in my life. Louie Franco's sister traveled with us and she was always a great person to hang out with.

Jerry was working on the International track and fell out of the Road Blade (the machine they used to grade the track) and it ran over him and he past away.

Jerry Shore Sr. lived another 6 years after the accident (if my memory serves me). Shirley believes (and I do to) that faith in Christ prevailed and this is why Jerry lived and did not die from this accident. Again, if my memory serves me... Jerry passed peacefully at their Acton home, sitting on their front porch enjoying his morning coffee and view (a beautiful view too).

My son and I recently spent time with and drove Shirley Shore (after talking her into it) to watch Doug Nicol race Speedway 12/12/09. Below is a photo taken from the event.

In the photo L top to R bottom: Mike ?, Paul Lane, Tom Harper, Rick Miller, Louie Franco, Rob Peeples, Graham Peeples, Shirley Shore. Many old MX friends have been getting reacquainted via Facebook and pages like the Indian Dunes, Saddleback, Hopetown, etc. pages.
