Edited Date/Time 8/11/2014 5:11am
Hey Guys, can someone please help me, I know its in a thread or two on here, but cant find it.
I have a '96 CR250 and have fitted a set of '05 CR250 Showa forks - what axle and spacer combo do I use?
Thanks in advance guys.

I believe it is '97 - up CR250 front axle and spacers. I'd get an '05 - up caliper since the caliper hanger, I think '02-'04 was specific to those years. The '96 up caliper is the same, the rotor is the same, the brake line is the same, the wheel is the same. The axle diameter is the same, Honda just shortened it (in '97?) as a weight reduction measure.

Double check with DJ, he has done a ton of these conversions. You can also check online parts fiche starting with '05 and then compare the parts numbers for other years.

Thanks Barkhard, DJ got back to me and confirmed this. He reckons '05 axle and spacers will be sweet. I'm going with CRFstuff front rotor and caliper hanger, just waiting on Scott to invoice me.

Thanks again!

I put 08 crf forks on mine and used the 08 axel and spacer. Worked fine. I also used a 07 crf complete front brake. Good luck

From about '96 until around '09 or so, Honda pretty much kept the same caliper, rotor, front wheel, master cylinder, etc. I guess they figured the front end was good enough to avoid any major changes (beside shortening the axle and using an oddball hanger) for years... Which make it easy to find good low hour materials for the swap. The 47MM Showa TC swap brings so many positives, I'm surprised everyone doesn't do this. I even did it to my '89

Can anyone tell me what the correct diameter of the front axle should be at the clamp. I am putting 2001 forks on my 96 and the axle measures 24mm/19mm.

The 19mm is correct, the 24mm is the problem, it doesn't want to tighten in the clamp, the axle is the one I got with the bike which was a basket case and i'm wondering if its the wrong axle, before I buy another one. It wouldn't tighten down with the KYB forks either and I can't remember it being loose when i disassembled the bike 2 years ago.
