Side panel is sold......tested gas tank, no leaks, petcock works but should be removed & cleaned out. Tank has some digs & scrapes, not a show piece but good for a rider or can be restored if you have the skills...

It's not bad at all, no where near close to going through.

Most of the black stains on underside are grease/ exhaust spooge, this is a good rider tank or spare if you have a really nice tank you are preserving, if you wanted to make this tank nice, it will require some razor blading & about 3 hrs of wet sanding....

My tank has a melt spot and the plastic is paper thin, but it doesn't leak. How think is the plastic at the melt spot? Yours looks better than mine for sure, but maybe I should just protect mine with epoxy rather than buying this one with the same melt spot.

That tank will shine right up.
I think you should fix yours and buy that tank. If your tank fails at an event your weekend is done right there. And then youll have to chase a 465 tank down anyway. Its not unheard of for old tanks to fail anyway with no burns.
I keep an extra tank for my KX in the trailer.
I hate mechanical failures. Im even building a back up engine to keep in the trailer too. The thought of doing a big weekend and wasting all the effort by a 30+ year old engine breaking is what i hope to avoid

I put the thick heat sheild tape on the underside of all my bikes where the pipe is close to the tank. I have an 81 rm 125 tank that was butt ugly with spray paint & years of neglect, 20 minutes with a razor blade has it looking much better, another 3 hrs of wet sanding & it will look almost new...when you finish sanding with 2000-2500 grit you don't even need to polish it...I thought I would offer some stuff on this site first, before it goes to eBay
