Yeah I have a soft spot for the '96, '97 and '98 125 and 250's. They look so cool!

I sold mine last year and immediately regretted it. Loved the bike. Very low hour and tight. Have fun with your build.

i love mine. Keep the PVs clean, find some good jetting settings, and enjoy! Let me know if you have any questions about any of that, or need any parts, i have a sickening amount of parts for these things in my garage in bremerton.

NICE find! There's a fully restored 125 over here in WA going quite cheap, I'm tempted to buy it!

Wet sand starting coarse to fine and plenty of elbow grease!

The one pictured? It looks to be in pretty good condition to me!

Pretty much an entire '98 minus rear brake resi, engine cases (cracked), and reed cage. I bought a runner because I wanted the cases and some goodies that were on it for my 99.

Check the frame for cracks especially around the engine mounts. Keep the engine mount bolts tight. Ditch the stock rear mc and resi and find a 1 piece from a newer bike, mine got hot from the exhaust and melted. Also, check the kickstarter for cracks, I'm on my 3rd. On the 250s, the powervalves gunk up easy, so clean them out if the bike starts running poorly. Not sure if this applies to the 125. The bikes are hard to jet. I had to go way lean. I think I'm at a 145 main, and 38 pilot with the needle 1 notch from leanest.
The 99-00 carb, ecu and cyl fit, so if you really wanted to, you could run those for the new style pv, and tps carb. Mine runs a lot cleaner with that set up.

Looks can be deceivingLaughing That pic was taken right after i bought it and washed it off on the way home, it was still wet. Everything i take off is a big surprise. I think it had somewhat low hours, just severely neglected in those hours. There was still paint on the linkage bolts from the factory, but the bearings have never been greased.

Thanks for the tips! The reservoir was broken, I ebay-ed another one for $25, so i will just change it out if it breaks again. I won't change the cylinder since i just spent $370 on getting it and the PV done (To Perfection!) from millennium tech. It didn't run when i got it so its a complete rebuild. I want for my kid and i to be able to ride it and not be fixing junk on it all day at the track instead of having fun.

I used carbon fiber look wrap on the forks and just put the Race Tech fork stickers on them that come with the Gold Valve kit.

Ok cool, I'll be doing the same with the carbon look wrap. How's the gold valves?

I have not ridden the '98 with gold valves yet, but I use them in a half dozen other bikes and love them.
