Bought a 95 KX 250, my first Kawasaki. $625 delivered.
Put the bike back together to see what I had:
No compression, looked like crap a quick rebuild is in order.
Put new tires, new plastics, piston kit, wrist pin, grips, levers, exhaust gasket, and a spark arrestor on it.
This is the final result:
I like it but I don't love it. Ideally I want to make it look like a clean stock 2000, or a clean stock 95. How do I get the frame back to green, have it powder coated? New wheels or have those powder coated too?

Nice bike though. I just painted the frame on my '96 KX250. I will post a thread soon.

and y quick... i mean quick. didnt even pull the motor :/
This is the goal
It lets me retain my black seat, but does require a complete disassembly for powder coating.
A few questions for those who know.
To upgrade to the 2005+ style side number plates, it looks like I will need a 05+ air filter assembly, will this fit my subframe?
Would it be best to just buy a 2005+ subframe?
Assuming I can find a way to get the side number plates upgraded, will the seat still fit correctly?
Seen a few people who have gotten a 2014 250f front fender to fit so that should be easy.
Were 05+ radiators silver in color?
What color is the frame on the 05+?
I think tomorrow I will get the bike out of storage and tear it back apart. Should have did it right the first time.
At this point I need to figure out how to blast this frame, soda or sand.
Order some bolts and go paint shopping.
IMO, the 94-98 bikes look so similar shapewise to the 03+ bikes that you could just do the graphics and paint. Trying to fit plastics and subframes will be a nightmare. Lots of changes there, narrower frame, 3 point subframe attaching points instead of 4. Headstay is different.
I was going to buy all the 07-08 KX125 graphics from the UK where they still had 2 strokes until 09 I believe. They had cool little graphics on the side panels and front numberplate.
I would love the green seat cover but can't seem to find any that are reasonable priced - that will fit my 95 seat.
Time for more pictures.
Frame and forks soda blasted and ready for paint.
Brakes seem to have cleaned up real nice however, this piece was clearly installed wrong previously.
Not going to paint these, they look A-OK for me. Do need to clean the lines up though.
This came out decent as well. Leaving this as be.
What color matches OEM wheels?
Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
OEM wheels are polished aluminum then clear anodized. TCR did the rims on my 94. http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n248/Jeekinz/94%20KX250/IMG_5338.jpg
The paint to use is single stage urethane. I use Rustoleum 244493 metallic silver to touch up my silver frames. I would try to match that color.
My wheels have scuff marks on them bad, looks like someone took a die grinder to them
Haven't been able to see one in person so I am just going off internet pictures.

Having my rims restored cost pretty much the same as new rims. I just chose to have them restored since they were original. You could just replace your rims/spokes if you wanted. I think the cheapest combo I found was Pro Wheel SS spokes and Warp 9 rims. I ran that combo on my 05 KX250 and never had an issue. They were a touch more difficult to setup compared to all Excel stuff but still good parts.
If you do decide to rebuild your wheels, remember there's a 10-12mm offset on the chain side of the rear wheel. People, including myself, didn't put that offset back in and the tire hits the swingarm.
I am pretty sure I will fail and end up painting them some kind of silver until I can find some OEM clean wheels.
I just had these tires put on these wheels, have about 1/4 mile of riding on them.
Its getting closer but the list of "must buy parts" is getting larger.
Anyone know where/how that piece goes?
Adjustment screw hits my thumb but I don't want to bring the whole assembly in, is a shorter screw my only option?
you might have to remove the front wheel to put that piece on.
Ive got most of the bike back together now. Going to buy some new bolts for the motor and then most of the bike has new bolts that match.
Also need to get all the parts for the rear axel, I basically have the rod, castle nut, and some various washers.
Looking for 06-07 if possible but will take 03-5 as well.
Also, is the kawasaki green the same color as my 98 plastic? I am almost ready to buy a plastic kit for a 07 and just figure out how to get everything to fit.
