I found this bike in Kansas and thought it would be a good project, non running, half an engine in the box, nightmare rebuild. Well I finished rebuilding it to be mechanically reliable not a resto. And it turns out that this thing rips! Compared to my 250f this thing scares the shit out of me! Based on the amount of red dirt (Oklahoma) I removed from the frame and engine I can only assume it was for a little dude that can turn some laps. Pretty sure the suspesion is PC from the purple anodized shock and dual-stage shim stack but cannot confim it yet. This would be one of Mitch's first few years in the buisness if it's period correct. I'm trying to find out who used to ride this little beast which is why I left all the old stickers and plastics on. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Very cool! Always wanted an RM 80 when I was a little kid. I started riding in 92 so this is right down my alley! The bike has some cool parts from that time period that make it pretty trick imo.

Loved my rm 80s. I raced a 92 and 93. Coming off yzs and then kxs the rm with a power valve just ripped and seemed so much easier to go fast on.

Those stickers are common 90s decals...they're not going to mean anything. The shock might help. Around that area there is possibility it could be a Charley Bogard bike. He was Suzukis top 80 rider at the time and if I remember right used pro circuit.

They were fast bikes despite still having mid 1980s plastic. When the new yz 80 finally came out in 93 it made the rm look vintage. Here's a pic of me winning a moto on my new 93 in the fall of 92.

I believe Pro Circuit was founded back in 1978-79.

Diggin the pics keep them coming! Yeah the power valve was tricky just had to add another spring. I'll have to check out Mr Bogard. And I don't know when PC was founded you're probably right

Not sure about his 80's but Charley used fmf on his big bikes. (My friend had a couple of his 125's in 96)

I'd love to have a powervalve rm80. I had an 88 without the pv about two years ago and it flat ripped! Nearly as fast as the 1990 rm125 I bought with the 80!

I think the power valve came in 89.

The 88 was a good bike too...my riding buddy had one I rode some. The kx and cr back then seemed more top end and a little pipey compared to the rm.

That shock is interesting. Back then it wasn't common to have coatings like that...so it makes me think it came from somebody who was somebody. I looked through the Loretta Lynn results from 92. Clint and Andy Bowyer raced Rm 80s and we're from Kansas...so that could be another possibility.

Nice one! Cant help you on whose it might have been.

But this is my 89 RM80...was a lobby display bike for an oil company for a long time...taken out, ridden only handful times. You dont see a ton of those bikes around...

I'd ride that little bike every day if I owned it. My 215 pound ass would be woods riding like a mofo!

Around 87 or 88 Super motocross magazine had a big article on the R&D "works" RM 80 that I think Buddy Antinez rode. Instead of the 'power reed' setup that had one tiny reed on the cylinder bottom and was half piston port Half case reed, R&D actually welded a reed valve onto the cylinder and welded up/ didn't use the 'power reed intake. It was purportedly a wide powerband powerhouse. I'd love to see that article again.

I had 4 of those 89 model 80's....first year for the new case reed engine. Coming off a 5 year run on KX's, the little bike felt like a rocket! Add some of R&D's engine magic, was an absolute beast. Out running 125's to the first turn was not a problem, but keeping the front wheel on the ground at times was!

You can use many of the current RM85 parts on those bikes. Transmissions interchange, though the 05+ ones have a slightly different shift drum with a bearing, whereas the older stuff didn't have a bearing. I believe cylinders interchange, with the 05+ having a slightly different PV that was non-adjustable.

You have a couple of possibilities for the original owner of the bike. First off, not a ton of Suzuki riders in Kansas around that time frame. Here are a few likely scenarios:

1. I don't think this would be a Bowyer bike. They ran team green from all I can remember and if they did swap to yellow it was a very very short time. If this is an option it would have to be Clint due to his age and year of bike. i do not think this is a Bowyer bike.

2. Jason Kellog always rode Suzuki and I believe he even rode under their support program. My only suspicion on this is year and his age. If this was his bike it had to be right during a transition to the 125/250. Very likely this is his based on the mods/stickers as well.

3. Very possible this was ridden by John Emhoff. The dates would line up and be more probable for him as opposed to Jason (there were about 1-2 years difference in age. This could have been one of his and would have been before transition to bigger bikes. As with Jason, John had multiple bikes (practice, stock, mod) each year and I think he used pro circuit. I think this is the strongest possibility.

4. Could have been from a rider in the KC area as most that rode Suzuki purchased from Shrouts. They often made the trip to Kansas tracks. I don't suspect thats the case on this.

5. I don't think this would be Bogard I never saw him in Kansas only OK or large races. But I guess 2nd owner could have brought it a little further north!

6. I may be able to dig into old photos and find it.

7. Couldn't be me...I never rode yellow!

Damn MrYammy321, good first post! Thanks to all for the replies! I do appreciate it due to my recently limited "fun-time." Needless to say the bike is sill ripping! Time to google John Emhoff...

Anyone know where to get decent RM80 graphics from late 80's early 90's?

I have a 91 I'm building and am having trouble finding anything. Some of the OEM ones show as available but when I've tried to order they come back as discontinued.

Yes checked evo-mx first, I have a lot of stuff from them. They don't show anything online and I have not contacted them directly yet.

Was hoping someone knew something I don't....have looked all over and can't seem to find anything readily available.

The seat and graphics are not correct for a 92. It should be the purple/yellow seat and the crazy graphics as shown above.
