I've got a big carrier bag full of tiny little honda bags in my garage.
When the bike was built, a mate asked me what was new. It was easier to tell him what was still original.
Frame, swinger, fuel tank/tap/cap, engine cases, a handful of gearbox parts, engine cases, carb, and the swingarm spindle.
Makes you wonder if you really need a bike to start the build in the first place.
Imagine you'll be in a similar position once finished?
You're pretty much guaranteed to be starting with the best turd you can find, then throwing thousands of pounds worth of Honda's finest at it.
I'm assuming you're going for a number one on top to tidy up once you're done pulling your hair out tracking down hens teeth and rocking horse faeces?
The Shop
NOS 92 Airbox/Airboot/Front airboot plate/5mm hex nuts. Zinc plated bolt and filter stay, original cage and new Twin Air filter
Had new genuine Honda seal kits and had fork caps anodised red so they all looked as the original Peak bikes. Its started to take a bit of shape now!
The longer of those engine bolts was NLA when I built my '91 125 earlier this year.
I've got a stainless bolt in there, but now have bolt envy.
NOS Rad louvres and overflow hose/clip. All new mounting hardware too with HRC drilled washers by Phil Denton Engineering!
Just broke up from work until 5th jan so hoping for some big progress whilst im off
Have a nice holiday/
GOOD news is, i've just located and purchased a NOS 92 125 tank!! Chuffed to bits!! The holab refurbed one i had done is good but you cant beat a brand new one the guy lives in spain and hes bringing it over to Telford show in february for me!
Pit Row
Brand new original Sun Rims from Buchanans USA as used in 91/92 on the team bikes. Hubs powdercoated and new bearings/seals etc. Rear disc face turned on a lathe to look original again.
Great build.
They also fitted new Sun rims to the 92 bike they restored for McGrath recently (the stolen recovered one) so that was a good enough excuse for me!
BTW your english is great, much better than my almost non existent German speaking ha.
They were the ones that first pointed out to me the ones in the showroom were DID rims as they're dimpled rims (where the spokes come through), and they've only ever produced non-dimpled rims
I have just got home from a trip to the states, while I was there I visited PC and checked out the bikes on display. I was particularly interested in the Peak Hondas, while looking at them I noticed that Brian Swink's bike had an alloy tank while MC's had a plastic one. I'm not sure whether they ran the alloy tank at any races but it looked used with a couple of dings and scratches in the blue paint.
I have a couple of pictures if your interested, they aren't close ups but you can see the alloy tank when you zoom in.
Pics will still be great to see though!
Sorry I didn't get any close ups, the bikes are all so close together, and I had my wife nagging me to get going......but here is the one that shows them together.
