This is my friends he doesn't post here. What would you guys say the value of this bike could potentially have?
It's basically a brand new 1990 cr 125 with the vrp parts. Probably been ridden a hand fun of times if ever.

The Euros especially go crazy over the Verona Racing Products stuff, probably because of the connection VRP had with HRC back in the glory days.

Here in the States a complete bike in this condition is nice, but the parts are probably going to bring more than trying to sell the bike as one piece. I've never been able to figure out why folks want to pay less for a completed bike but more for parts, but that's just been my experience.

Vintage Bike Ads has a huge group of folks from all over who post collectors bikes like these, and your buddy would probably have good luck selling it there.

Cool bike and good luck to your buddy!

Very nice bike. I see the subframes sell for around $700 alone on eBay.

He bought the bike at an auction on Vegas very reasonable. Apparently it was a display bike at the primm museum. He is looking to sell it. I personally don't know what a price would be for the complete bike. I'm agreeing with some of you that the parts would be worth more separated.

The bike is sure nice, but as mentioned by others it's the VRP parts that will get you the most $$$.

VRP is the "real deal" but most younger guys have no clue why. Well - As proud owner of a full VRP-bike i show you why:

VRP (Verona Racing Parts) - Carlo Verona from Italy - was doing all those aluminium gas tanks that were used in the GPs back then. Most race teams had them, HRC as well as Kawasaki factory had parts made by him. And in '89 Verona did his own aluminium chassis for Honda CRs. Only 12 pcs. got made and only a couple are still mounted as complete bikes. I actually had two of them: my first was in 1989 but i sold that per end of that year. And in 1990 i bought the one i still have in my garage. Remember: besides the factory Yamaha of Jacky Vimond in 1988 this was the first aluminium MX bike! 8 years before Honda actually offered the '97 CR 250 with the 1st production aluminium frame.

My 1990/91 VRP Mugen Honda CR 125:

I stored that chassis for over 20 years in my dads basement:

But just now i converted it back to '89 as i will compete in an italian Vintage championship race held in Montevarcchi / Italy this upcoming september. It's 25 years ago i also used that exact bike there for the 1990 125cc World championships ! So for me it's like a 25th anniversary going back to a place i raced in my prime Smile

Great to see it in 89/90 spec Nino.

Keep us updated on how you get on. Always good racing an old bike and the memories it brings back. (I've only had mine 15 years in comparison)

I bought a '91 VRP tank to buy, refurbish, and sell on, but made the mistake of trying it on my 125 once it was done.
Can't bring myself to remove it, so I've bought loads of parts to bring the rest of the bike up to standard.

Every time I see a subframe for sale, my wallet twitches.

Well - that's what i had to do to be able to mount it back to a '89:
89 gas tank
89 subframe/airbox assembly
regular forks
saddle
all plastics
ATAC engine&exhaust

I spend over 1000$ in that airbox alone:
got it for 700$ on Ebay & TAX/Custom....but it was pretty much worn and bent so i had to get it done nice for another 300$.

1989 VRP subframe/airbox:

The gas tank is not just aluminium but also features some hidden air funnels that direct air from behind the front numberplate directly into the airbox (RAM-air):

So you need a ventilated front numberplate to actually have that effect working Wink

Always thought those tubes on the earlier tanks were particularly cool. (Pun intended)

I imagine our 91 tanks were more for their extra capacity, hence the lack of the tubes, and probably unnecessary due to the 91 side panels feeding the airbox better than the '89/90 ones.

The bike looks great like this, especially with the RWU forks.

What's the spec on the ATAC motor?
Must seem strange taking some backwards steps and putting the HPP motor to one side.

Well-i would have liked to mount a '89 Mugen but those cylinders are very rare and if you happen to find one for sale they are really, really expensive. So for that event i just went for a stock '89 cylinder which got tuned by a german Tuner. He did GP engines back in the day and it should be as fast if not faster than a Mugen (i still have my doubts but it will be seen soon).

But even stock '89 barrells are hard to find, even more difficult is it to get all the individual parts off the ATAC exhaust system. To get one complete kit i actually needed to buy 3 used cylinders from various sources...

Out of these pieces of junk my Tuner Helmut Tisberger had to do one usable kit:

Nino, are you still running the ATAC chamber on the '89 motor?
On the pictures it still has the '90 HPP engine but just today i should get the '89 top-end with ATAC.
