1990/91 tank on 87 cr250

I've seen a few places online say they are almost the same tank, I don't think so. the number are:

1987 : 17510-KS7-700
1991: 17510-KZ3-700ZA

anyone ever try this swap?

Not even close. Different color, different rad shroud mounting points. '89 tank is also designed to work with the low-boy pipe. The '86 and '87 use the same shrouds. '89 went from the red/orange to dark red, so even though the '89 front fender (for example) will bolt up, it won't match.

yup thats exactly what i thought. the 1990 tank is definatley a different shade, the 91 is listed as flash red. the 89's are not even close.just wondering why the shop said they were compatible.

I mis-read the heading. They should be close in color but the '90-91 tank uses different shrouds, sits lower, and is for the low-boy pipe. The seat is also a lot different. For some reason I thought you'd asked about the '89 tank, the '88-'89 color was a deep red.
