I'm pretty sure should be able to use an '86 CR250 pipe. You can get new works finish pipes from DEP (or you could last time I checked). You can find PC and stock pipes on eBay but the PC works finish has been out of production for many years and the chrome PC pipe is scarce.

The rear rim is going to be a challenge. Honda went from a 36 spoke rear to a 32 spoke rear in '89, all anyone will want to sell you new is a 32 spoke... Trust me, I fought this battle.

The correct yellow 36 spoke rims are soft and were only available for 2 years so there aren't of many of them, and they are hoarded. I never could find these for my '86 and '87 CR250 projects.

I'd get a good stock 36 spoke rear from whatever year and then either have both rims anodized or buy a silver front and 36 rear and just live with it.

Find a decent '87 tank on eBay and restore it yourself or send it to Phil at Plastic Restorations.

You may also want to post this list on VintageBikeAds.com and VintageMX.us. Anything NOS is likely to come from Europe, and it won't be cheap.

The other thing to check for is the dreaded outer case cover rot. If you have this (pretty much every CR from '82-'89 does to some extent), you should evaluate how much you're willing to spend and what you can live with.

The build of my '87 is here on Vital, look up what we did which should give you a rough idea what's involved.

great , thanks for the info. the outer case and water pump is in good shape on this one. I have seen the pc pipes for sale online, they are expensive but very limited and still available for now..... DG emailed me back saying 86/87 were not compatible but I have seen otherwise on this forum. I have not checked out DEP, but will now.

not much out there for tanks at the moment, I have checked everywhere. there are a lot of 90/91 and 85/86 tanks out there. nothing for 87.

I will check into anodizing the stock rims that I have, one is silver one is gold.

I have seen your resto, looks great.

First thing is check if your spokes can be loosened.

You really only have 3 choices based on the above.

Pick up a rim off of a member here or fleebay
Pick up a wheel assembly
Pick up spokes & rim & relace to your hub.

Or... you could just order a new rim... Excel, SM pro, DID etc all do 36 hole 18" rims and are easily available.

I've looked into them before $300 is a lot less than I want to pay for it, for that price I could pick up a rolling chassis off craigslist and get more out of it. I was hoping someone here who has one they would be willing to sell and ship to the Bay Area, or a possible wheel from another bike that may fit?
