Anybody know if a complete 1989 CR 500 front fork assembly will work on a 87 CR 250 ?

You should just freshen up those 87s as they were some of the best forks Honda ever sold!

The 89' USD forks will be a major backwards step. Is there a reason you're wanting to swap forks?

Lots of 89 owners were swapping to 87 forks back when they were new.

1987 HONDA CR Suspension was some of the best made. I would recommend freshening up the front end you have now.

Hi I know it's been two years since this post but...I'm thinking about doing the same retro swap with my '90 CR 500. Just wondering if the triples bolted right over or if you had to swap the bottom bearing? How about the front brake caliper and front wheel? I really appreciate any info you can give me!

The bottom bearing on the 90 is larger than the 87. 87 has same bearing top and bottom. 90 top bearing is same as top/bottom as 87. Caliper will work but may have to use 87 caliper carrier. Not sure on wheel, trial and error on that.
I have 3 87 parts bike if you need anything.

Xr600 and certain xl650 had the 43mm cartridge forks if you can't find any 86-88 cr250/500 forks.

I have an 87 CR 250. I need to freshen up the suspension on both ends and put on Stiffer spring. Where can I get fork springs and what weight do I need? 6'1" 215lbs. Getting it ready to do some vintage racing. The bike is a lot of fun but I need to get the suspension set up. Any tips/tricks for setting it up?

You can use the racetech site to figure out what spring rate you need and I'm sure they carry springs for it too. Just one word of caution, I've found that racetech usually likes to be one rate too stiff in the forks and one rate too soft in the shock for my liking and I'm a 6'3" A level woods rider.

Heres another question, are you racing vintage on modern tracks, or tamed down vintage tracks? If you aren't on a modern track, the spring rate might not be that far off.

Back in the day Mugen offered these internal kits with adjustable rebound...they transformed stock forks into awesome forks!

That's cool. Those are cartridge kits just like what came in the 86-88 forks.

I wonder how long the factory ran those before offering them to the public.
