The '82 250 engine was legendary.
Hello Project racer did you race with Billy Wood or the rest of the Gang, I use to ride with Steve Martin , Karl Jordan, Kenny Keylon. Who are you? Hi there all, and thanx for taking the time to read my post...
I own a 1982 rm 250 z, an am in desperate need of the repair manual, witch i cant find anywhere, ANYONE who could help me out with pics or info of a link where i can get the info from would be very very gratefull.!! i basicaly rebuilding the engine, and specs for replacement parts would be helpfull ,with out having to pay the £50they are asking here in the UK for the clymer manual, its a ridiculose price and i dont have the cash for it |

9/16/2009 8:43 AM The original Suzuki owner's manual does a very good job of outlining the engine rebuild process. I've seen them sell on ebay for around $20 and a couple of them have been on the UK ebay site. The 82 and 83 are essentially the same bike so keep your eyes peeled for both years.
BTW, if mother nature cooperates, I'll be hitting the track for the first time on the 82 this Sunday for the first round of the TVRC's fall series. Wish me luck! |

You going to ride a mudder? It's a sand track so it should be good if mother nature cooperates for the next few days. I'm not a big fan of mud though. It wrecks your bike.

9/16/2009 11:19 AM looked at the TVRC website...I need to get my '00 Zook fixed up. I can ride that in the TVRC races once the 2010's hit the floor!

I'd say you qualify for the decade class now. Certain 2010's are already here. that's funny...and sad. Since it's an all in one class, I'm guessing there would be some fast guys in there. But, I bet I could have some fun. I need to get it fixed no matter what.

9/16/2009 7:06 PM Man wish I could join you guys, just picked up a '84 RM500 from Dallas last week. Hopefully someday in the not-so-distant future we ( Evo & TVRC ) can run some races together. We had some killer races back in the mid/late 90's to '02-'03 timeframe. Let us know how that killer Z goes.

Going to try and hook-up with Richard Davis / Hance and try and make a TVRC race. Would love to ride Burleson again, you lucky dogs have some great tracks up there. Have you ever hit 3 Palms ? it's the country club of mx tracks, amazing what he's done for us flatlanders.

I haven't ridden in Houston since Surber use to include Rio and the old Conroe track as part of the Texas series. I've been meaning to get down to 3P but were are so spoiled with good tracks in DFW that it's hard to make the drive. The Burleson round of the TVRC is November 15. Hance usually comes up for that one.

9/20/2009 8:55 PM Well, I survived the vintage weekend. Ran a full tank of gas Saturday testing the bike. Everything worked perfectly with just a few minor adjustments. Loaded up and went racing at Oak Hill this morning. The bike worked flawlessly in practice and the track was epic. Lined up for moto 1 and got a good start right behind former national rider, Kirk Spencer, who was a bit more than I could handle on his 490. Chased Kirk around for a lap, then bike started sounding a little funny but I went ahead and ran it to the finish anyway. Got back to the pits to find that the pipe had developed a large crack. Oh well, wasn't able to run moto 2 but at least with a little welding the pipe will be almost as good as new. This vintage racing is a blast. I'm already pumped for round two in two weeks.

That was very common on the '82 RM 250 to crack the pipe. Is it touching the front motor mount bolts/frame? If so ,you may have to tap a little clearance dent into the pipe. The DG pipes were made with a little more clearance in that area.

9/21/2009 4:19 AM Cam, man that looks sweet. You might give AMS Racing a call, I think they have ProForm pipe and silencer combo for the Z. More pixs !!!!!!.........these are off that '82 in Beaumont, talked to the owner and he wants $3500 for it.

9/21/2009 6:28 AM bultokid, the guy that owns that RM250Z in Beaumont was racing in my class yesterday. He's a good rider and we had a short battle until he pooped out. That's a good running bike. Everyone says the Pro Form pipe is the best running pipe available, but man is it cobby looking. The brazing they use for the hangers looks really bad. Their silencers look trick though. They sound good too.

Going to get it welded today, then add a little clearance in that area before I remount it. Someone told be the DG pipe kills the bike's over-rev. That's too bad because they look really nice.

it always looks like you are riding a pit bike...damn long legs! Awesome pic.
cool that it worked well. I'm getting started on my 00...the damage to the case can be patched, but I wouldn't want to race it like that. I've got to find new cases for it. Got any ideas for finding parts? Vitaldrive "yahoo" |

9/21/2009 8:23 AM chain broke and ripped the chain guard off, left a whole in the left case right where a couple of bearing are located. I was told that it could be JB welded if I just wanted to stop it from leaking, but, that won't fix it and I don't think it would hold for any serious riding.

Take it over to Piper Performance in North Richland Hills. Cliff can work welding magic with cracked cases.

Take it over to Piper Performance in North Richland Hills. Cliff can work welding magic with cracked cases. I went over there on Saturday. He looked at it and said (paraphrasing) you have a bearing here and here (on either side of the hole). He can weld the bolt piece back on and I can JB weld that hole, but that's just a bandaid. He said he could probably replace the cases and rebuild the bottom end for ~1000. Or I could shop for the cases myself and maybe save some money.
Anyway, I really want to get it fixed right, so I'm looking for the cases. I think the cases from a '99 are identical...so I can go with '99 or '00. I may even be able to find an engine that's still intact, which would be ok. Vitaldrive "yahoo" |

9/21/2009 10:12 AM BTW, I did some research and the '96-2000 cases are all the same.
