I am rebuilding a set of 1980 Maico forks. This is my first experience with the 'big' forks. Anything I should know about mods to make while I have them apart?

I know the old 38mm forks had a bunch of mods to do, welding up holes and relocating them in the damper rods, etc.

Anything similar for the 1980 forks to improve them without going the cartridge emulator route?
Indy,

The 80' forks are a one year only, in 81' Maico got rid of the banana frame.

If I remember I just ran a #16 drill bit trough the top hole in the dampener rod & ran 20wt oil 5.5 inches from the top with the forks compressed & no springs.

But I would check the Yahoo Maico group to be sure, as the 80 I had didn't stick around to long.

Thanks, bigmaico.

I thought the forks were pretty similar on the 80 and 81 with the big tubes and the gullwing lower triple clamp (?)
