I raced 100 expert, and didn't race 100's after 81. turned pro in 82.

This kid right here was the fastest 100 rider ever. Those weren't always "100's". But he was a fast mofo, to be sure.

11/4/2009 5:53 AM Seeing the JT makes me think of a kid back around 73,74 maybe as far as 72 racing around Louisiana (I saw him at Waggaman LA. alot if anyone remembers that track) with JT on his number plate on I think a Kawasaki KE 100 very tricked out and won almost everytime I saw him race, I thnk his name was John Talyor. but I not sure, I may be mixing tha up with Ron Dupry's Kawasaki 100 that he raced alot at Waggaman. I don't know memory is pretty cloudy, that was long ago,

I don't know memory is pretty cloudy, that was long ago, I remember Scooter Stafford, Bubba Bardwell, and the rest of the Sunshine Yamaha Gang (hailing from Houma, LA, I believe). They were a lot of fun. So were the...uhm,uh, "very talented" Cajun ladies that accompanied them to the track.

Greg Toyama moved to Australia (Adelaide) in the early 80's. I had some great races with him locally in South Australia on 125's and 250's up until about '83 when he stopped riding to concentrate on a real estate career. I haven't seen him for years, apparently he's back in California. Great guy. Just go hit a Saturday night SX at Anaheim Stadium, make your trek to the Big Jumbotron up top and there is a sweet little bar area...you'll find Greg Toyama with a bunch of Old School Mxer's having a beer, seen him last 2 years in a row...serious he hasn't aged !!

11/14/2009 1:09 AM Sondy- I think I will go find Gregg Toyama at the Anaheim SX next year. It was great seeing Stu and you at the Trans-Cal finale. |

11/9/2009 12:56 PM Punky Sites was very fast on a 100 81-82 Dist 17. Breck Powers(mini rider) borrowed a 100 to qualify for LL's. He was winning LL's on a borrowed bike and bent the shifter all the way back and I think he still ended up 6th.

socalhodaka-- The CALVMX vintage race at Perris was really alot of fun! Here you are with your Hodaka as one of your competitors checks things out.
The 100 class is back and here's the start of the first moto. This class will no doubt keep growing and growing. |

514 is Chris Parker on a JWR-Jeff Ward-racing mini elsi. This guy lived up the street from me in Villa Park and also rode for Harry's Cycle in Orange. |

Parker was still around around OC as recently as a few years ago. I believe his ole man owned Vulcan, no? And, wasn't Vulcan essentially a JWRP clone motor? That is my recall. The early mini-Dad's (Myerscough, Ward, Whiting, Moorewood, etc.) must have all had really sharp CPA's, as they pioneered the idea of writing off your kid's hobby as a business. I know my ole man set up a corporation and wrote our shit off for years----said we couldn't afford to do it any other way. But, nobody mastered the art like Kurtie's ole man with the NMA (yeah, I know Virginia and Ted were co-founders).
Whose on that Suzuki? The helmet looks very familiar. Welchel? He typically wasn't at Saddleback (more of an Indian Dunes regular), but that could have been taken at a series race. "Show me a guy who is afraid to look bad, and I'll show you a guy you can beat everytime."

That helmet and those Heckel boots on the Suzuki rider kind of reminds me of Jody Weisel. But if it was Jody, he'd have an MXA jersey on, along with his famous #192, right?
