I see Bryan, on a regular basis, his son "J.D." is riding pretty good these days.

Mark Marriot, from Newport beach, on a Steve's cycle CR100 was pretty fast.

There was another kid that won pretty regular on a Steve's Cycle Supply CR100 at OCIR and other local tracks, his name was Greg Barrett from Long Beach but after he started racing 250's he died of a lung problem.

I do not remember him.
Freddie Van Waggoner was a bad ass on 80's, but sadly never got to big bikes.

I remember Greg Barrett...I didn't know he died. I'm saddened to learn that.

How about Dave Dickenson ?

He rode for Steve, also, but really wasn't a threat like the others mentioned.

The 100 needs to be brought back. This thread demonstrates how many talented riders developed out of that class.

I loved the 100 class Larry...

I love racing mini bikes.

But I feel at todays expense, it would cost to much, I mean if we did it as they did then, by sleeving down a 125.

I'll bet some bad ass 100s could be produced !

I worked at Award Motors for awhile during that time and don't remember the name Dave Dickenson, but another guy from that area that raced the bigger bikes was Jeff Ortberg, and while he wasn't the fastest guy out there he did have a lot of heart and kept trying.

He's been there for five years, and flies to Cali about every two or three months. His kid turned 18, and moved back within a week.

Yeah, so...Alabama ?

I have been down here since '92 tried the marriage thing but didn't work and just sort of stuck around since then, I'm working for a Go-Kart amd SYM Scooter distributor/mfg now.
Wow Uncle Arvil in the jailhouse? Of course you would figure Loonie would be in jail or the graveyard. I heard Jim Jr had a racing fuel company in europe but that was awhile ago. Do you know what ever became of Big Bob the service manager?

Lonnie, that was his name...I am old too !

Yeah Jr. had a fuel company, but for some reason is back here. I think he still has his hands in the fuel business.

I know Bob Henderson, sold his Costa Mesa house...I heard he moved out of state but I have no idea where.

Remember how Lonnie used to pick on me for being so small, and skinny. The last time I saw him, I stood taller, and I was bigger.

Arvil fired me because I would leave early to go to my Boxing, and martial arts, classes...I was little, and I got tired of being picked on. People don't pick on me these days.

I got married to a trophy girl, I met at Costa Mesa Speedway...that ended eight years ago.

My Dad sold his Newport home for 3 million, and moved to Murietta. His health is failing.

I know this is an old topic but I just had to chime in. I remember a guy named Palmer who absolutely dominated Western Canadian MX in the 100cc Schoolboy Clas during...1980 or 81 , yeah, it was 81. I raced my first season on a 125 and at 14 i should have stuck to minis another couple years....
Palmer raced an EC Birt factory bike, I mean it was trick! Beyond trick! At the time it was just so bloody exotic it was beyond the imagination of a kid like me! My good friend from Calgary, Clifford Keveryga, also went on to go pretty fast on a YZ100 in Canada and Montana during the early 80's.
I last saw him in the late 80's when he passed through my dads Kawa shop on the way back to Calgary from racing in socal. We loaned him a clapped out 1985 KX125 (it was '86 and i had already done a season on that evil little tank slapper!) . We went to a Yamaha Gold Cup round at Washougal and he just rocketed around that place and nearly won the Intermediate class before it exploded! Nikasil everywhere!
Palmer, thoug, that cat was amazing, really talented! i dont know what ever happened to him... cool topic though, The 100 class really had its place....These days kids have to make such a big jump to the 250cc 4-strokes from mini's.

Bobby Kline used to kill at hopetown in the "huge" 100 class, Jeff Drummond was fast too on a steens hodaka and Johnny O' used to race the dunes on a stripped down suzuki 90... in those days the 100 class was the biggset class bigger than the 125's.. A.M.E. used to sanction the friday night races and everyone used to sneak in throught the sand wash.... if i wasn't racing, low on funds or such, i would wait till the first lap was done and jump in to the middle of the pack only to be kicked off a few laps later.. those were the days guys...
