A lot of theories about why the pilot got locked out from a suicide mission to a medical problem. The pilot locked out must have panicked and forgot the combo.
What a f**** idiot this guy must have been. I mean ok, go kill yourself if you want to, but why kill 150 innocent people of all ages with you?? DAMN!
Wonder if he had any terrorist connections?

This isnt a discussion about selfishness, living with your parents or acceptable means of suicide. It, as it always is, should be a discussion of mental illness and what we can do as a society to recognize and reach out to these people to prevent these things from happening.
Those that are closest to the individual MUST reach out to the person and demand they seek help. Its a tough call, but going beyond that may be necessary,... contacting the police, employers or something, especially when a person has a job where many peoples lives may be in danger or if it is known the individual has access to firearms.
Since you made this about gun control, we should either ban airplanes or limit the number of passengers they hold.
When I heard she had not been seen figured he had taken care of that to.
Do we ban 1/4 of the English population from doing any job that may cause others harm?
Most individuals are not trained to know an individual needs help. Not only that, we have been conditioned to mind our own business. If you ask a person if something is wrong or if they need help, they say "no", that's the end of it. Most people won't continue to ask questions.
As far as this pilot was concerned, he had his little time out. The "professionals" said he was good to go. If pilots go through the same level of suicide training US military and gov't employees go through, it is easy to know what "they" are looking for and give the right answers and continue on as if everything is fine. I think too much education on suicide is as dangerous as not enough.
It seems like this guy might have been just a sick bastard who wanted to take people with him. It's just bizarre how air travel has been touted as the safest way to travel all these years and over the last two years, we've lost about 6 planes it seems.
Seriously IWreck, you've go to be joking. Do you give a second thought to jumping in your car? Probably not, but there are roughly 1.24 MILLION road deaths per year worldwide. So yes, in comparison, air travel is absurdly safe.
Whatever happened to common sense? People do not need to be trained to see that something is horribly wrong with someone that is close to them. You get to know people and its not hard to see changes in mood. The comitment, and the tough part, is having the courage to step in and try to be a voice of reason for someone who cannot see the light.
Titan,... who I see hasnt posted here in a while....used to always say in his Morman wisdom that the family is the greatest contributor in a persons well-being and health and not government intrusion. I think hes right.
Just like somebody should have stepped in and told the mother of that Newtown kid that teaching retards to shoot guns is a bad idea, perhaps someone could have stepped in and informed the airline that this guy worked for, that they were worried about his decision making and at the least he should be watched closely.
