Damn, how horrifying would that been, pilot couldn't get back in the cabin.

There is a code pad the way I understand it but he was trying to bust it down.

They other pilot musta wanted to kill himself,

Why was the pilot not in the cockpit in the 1st place? They had just taken off and reached cruising altitude.

A Southwest pilot got locked out accidentally a few weeks ago when the door malfunctioned. I'm guessing even pilots have to pee.

Here's another mystery like MH370. Seems to many commercial airliners going down lately. Must be absolutely terrifying for the passengers. Very sad tragedy.

Supposedly the plane was being followed/escorted by fighter jets which didn't stay around after it crashed.

Crazy stuff PB. I like reading those type of sites sometimes to see what nut cases I share the planet with.

A lot of theories about why the pilot got locked out from a suicide mission to a medical problem. The pilot locked out must have panicked and forgot the combo.

The Co-Pilot locked the door from inside the cockpit after the pilot went to the bathroom. Investigators are pretty sure this was a suicide act from the co-pilot. He destroyed the plane and all the people in it with purpose.
What a f**** idiot this guy must have been. I mean ok, go kill yourself if you want to, but why kill 150 innocent people of all ages with you?? DAMN!

There definitely are a lot of planes hitting the ground. Seems like with modern computer systems, you could prevent a lot of these incidents.

Fox News, as of 10:30am, has already linked this crash to Obama.

I'm not sure what really happened, but critical thought should be used in all cases. Remember that language creates reality, thus, the control of language is a very real event that's been happening since time memorandum.

3 months off work because of depression, probably a standard layoff for doing something crazy.

Sit out 90 days, welp, good to go,here are the keys.

Its always easy AFTER the horrible event to ask "why didnt anyone see this coming, he was depressed?"

This isnt a discussion about selfishness, living with your parents or acceptable means of suicide. It, as it always is, should be a discussion of mental illness and what we can do as a society to recognize and reach out to these people to prevent these things from happening.

Those that are closest to the individual MUST reach out to the person and demand they seek help. Its a tough call, but going beyond that may be necessary,... contacting the police, employers or something, especially when a person has a job where many peoples lives may be in danger or if it is known the individual has access to firearms.

Since you made this about gun control, we should either ban airplanes or limit the number of passengers they hold.

According to THIS link, 1 in 4 UK residents will suffer a mental health problem this year.

Do we ban 1/4 of the English population from doing any job that may cause others harm?

You can't have a discussion about suicide and not talk about selfishness. Suicide is a very selfish act. It's rage turned inward. It's an act where you don't care about the affects or consequences it has on other people; family, friends, coworkers etc. as long as the suicidal person gets what they want. Suicide is the very definition of a selfish act.

Most individuals are not trained to know an individual needs help. Not only that, we have been conditioned to mind our own business. If you ask a person if something is wrong or if they need help, they say "no", that's the end of it. Most people won't continue to ask questions.

As far as this pilot was concerned, he had his little time out. The "professionals" said he was good to go. If pilots go through the same level of suicide training US military and gov't employees go through, it is easy to know what "they" are looking for and give the right answers and continue on as if everything is fine. I think too much education on suicide is as dangerous as not enough.

While I wouldn't be surprised to hear he was related to the extremists, I just want to point out that they're not the only ones capable of terrorism.

It seems like this guy might have been just a sick bastard who wanted to take people with him. It's just bizarre how air travel has been touted as the safest way to travel all these years and over the last two years, we've lost about 6 planes it seems.

Calling air travel "safe" bizarre?!?!?

Seriously IWreck, you've go to be joking. Do you give a second thought to jumping in your car? Probably not, but there are roughly 1.24 MILLION road deaths per year worldwide. So yes, in comparison, air travel is absurdly safe.

Putting the focus of suicide as a "selfish" act is trying to associate those who commit suicide as having a character flaw and thus determination and hard work will cure it.

Whatever happened to common sense? People do not need to be trained to see that something is horribly wrong with someone that is close to them. You get to know people and its not hard to see changes in mood. The comitment, and the tough part, is having the courage to step in and try to be a voice of reason for someone who cannot see the light.

Titan,... who I see hasnt posted here in a while....used to always say in his Morman wisdom that the family is the greatest contributor in a persons well-being and health and not government intrusion. I think hes right.

Just like somebody should have stepped in and told the mother of that Newtown kid that teaching retards to shoot guns is a bad idea, perhaps someone could have stepped in and informed the airline that this guy worked for, that they were worried about his decision making and at the least he should be watched closely.

He was hiding his illness from employer. In fact at that day he was not supposed to be flying. Doctor wrote a note that he tore up. Investigators found that note at his home.
