I added another guitar to my stable last week, went into the local guitar shop looking for a halfway decent hollowbody, something like an epiphone casino, or if I found a more expensive one I liked that much more, I soul hold off for a while before pulling the trigger. Well I walked in and saw this hanging on the wall, and just couldn't help myself. Picked up a used 2003 Gibson ES137 custom for a hell of a deal, no way I was going to pass it up. The baritone switch on it is badass, gives you lots of different tone options. Now I have to be the guy who brings 4 guitars to play at the local bar... but ill have a huge smile on my face while I do!

Get a line6 guitar and you'll only need one guitar at your gigs.

I always wanted a Gibson hollow body! Problem is I screwed up my left index finger changing tires on the race bike a few months back and it's not healing. Not sure if I screwed the knuckle or ripped a tendon. Either way I can't curl it up without much pain so my guitar playing has pretty much come to an end. I have a buddy who is a plastic surgeon who sews fingers back on for a living (and he does boob jobs). He's going to get me in to his office and stick it under the live x-ray to see what's wrong with it. Nice looking fiddle though!!

Hope you get that finger figured out and back into playing shape! Always gotta be careful with that left hand!

I would still know. The Gibson is much heavier and feels like a guitar. Smile

Line 6? That's laughable.

Nice axe Davis!

Just noticed my phone autocorrected varitone to baritone, although a couple selections do make her sound a little extra deep and chunky Cool now to give her a name...

Also... there is one flaw with it. The screw holding the strap button on by the neck is stripping the wood out, it loosens up with the strap movement, and wont fully tighten. What do you guys recommend? Wood glue, super glue, elmers glue, or a bigger screw?

If you can, try some wood glue and sawdust combo.

Why? I played with a professional guitar player who let me use his, and he showed me his "real" guitars against his Line 6. He said they were great guitars and he saves his expensive guitars for home now.

$1800 on the tag, but I got it for $1400 Cool I checked on EBay and only saw a couple listed for $2400, and since they were discontinued, I think I did alright! The es 335 has a wider but skinnier body, and a double cutaway. The 137 has a mahogany center block in it, I think most other hollowbodies are all maple. Then with the 137 custom, you get the ebony fretboard, and the varitone switch, that brings the pickups out of phase

I'm sure most people in a crowd couldn't tell the difference, and some players just have different tastes. I know some "professional" guitar players and drummers who use digital modeling effects and electric drums, but I can't stand either. I use as little effects as possible if I can help it. Was your friend, by chance, big into 80s music?

Actually he's a jazz guitarist who can play everything from Yngwie Malmsteen to Steve Vai.

To each his own, I don't have a problem with people wanting the real thing, but the Line 6 is a great guitar as well.

I actually didn't realize Line 6 had guitars in their product line. I thought they were effects only. I actually have a Line 6 Pocket POD I carry around in my little Steinberger case (very nice compact setup for traveling). Had it for many years now. Have they always sold guitars as well or is that a recent addition to their lineup?

The reviews all over the net are terrible. To each his own I guess. Might be ok for a kid getting started in playing. But some of the reviews I saw were very laughable as said before.

Nice guitar. Some years back, I really wanted an archtop but the prices were very prohibitive at the time. Needless to say, I bought Benedetto's book and built myself one for about $700 bucks in materials and eventually about $10k worth of tools. Would have been cheaper to buy that Gibson, ha! In 10 years I've now built 7 archtops (4 electric/acoustic and 3 acoustic) an archtop bass with humbucker, 4 flat tops and two ukuleles. No money in building guitars, but it's nice to be able to build what you want.

Shall we derail the shit out of this thread and make it a "post pics of your guitar" thread?

Here's one my wife had taken at Walmart a few years ago as a surprise. Not bad for a Walmart pic. They're all acoustic although one has a Kent Armstrong, floating humbucker as well.

Here's my first archtop bass. It has a Kent Armstrong pickup as well. 21" lower bout and 34" scale. It's one of the only acoustic bass I've heard that can be heard in an acoustic jam short of an upright.

Me with my (Korean) strat. It actually sounds very nice! Favorite tone on my album (ran it through my dual terror and a jcm800 simultaneously)

Very nice! I really dig the black one, and I've never seen soundholes like that on your bass. You do good work! I've always wanted to build my own guitar
