Though Im not a contractor or anything where I use the stuff every day, my DeWalt power tools seem to be holding up well.

When I bought my Chevy truck back in 96 it came with a DeWalt power tools package , so thats how I ended up with Dewalt. Otherwise I wouldnt know one brand from the other.

Milwaukee is red, Dewalt is yellow and Makita is blue, thats the difference I see with those three.

I have that saw that came from my dad so it has to be at least 22 years old, I don't use it that much but I've never had any problem. Have that same drill with the matching impact driver. I use the drill probably 10 to 15 minutes almost every day, it's got 4 or 5 years on it no problems. So as of 5 years ago they were fine.

Get this DeWalt 20v combo, best money you can spend on power tools. I absolutely LOVE mine.

The Milwaukee sawzall is great. As far as cordless drills go, it's really hit and miss. I think Ryobis work the best.

I still have all my 'regular' powertools Ive had for decades, but its just too easy to grab these DeWalts when doing smaller projects. Especially when away from a power source. Dont even hafta drag out the Stihl chainsaw when working on fence posts anymore, these 20v batteries hold up great in my experience.

Nice not having to drag out a small generator or a gazzilion feet of extension cord for power.

I've had that same Sawzall for well over 20 (hard) years, the only problem I've ever had with it I caused myself.

Dewalt is all I ever had as well. nothing worse then being in a position where you need a tool to perform and it doesn't.
I don't care where it's made if it's junk it's junk, if it performs I'm buying it.

I have mostly Milwaukee and really like it. Maybe the newer stuff has some quality issues. I'll keep an ear to the ground.

Dewalt cons: short battery life. Pros: fast recharge., good ergos., light., durable. Snap -on makes an excellent drill motor but it is heavy and gets pretty warm with extended use. DeWalt is a really good cost/performance tool.

I am a contractor and I go through lots of this stuff. Tools are just not made as good as they used to be. I wish somebody would make some super indestructible stuff. It would be worth almost any price. Contractors I guess are not their main consumer so it must not be worth it for them from a business standpoint.

Back when I used to frame houses we always used these. They are absolutely fking bulletproof! Dropped off latters, sat through rain day after day, covered in wet saw dust... Made it through tough every single day.

...American made as well

As far a sawzalls go DeWalt made the best, and Makita was right there with them.

I will say that Skillsaw makes the toughest skillsaw, but Rigid makes the most accurate, light, and somewhat tough skillsaw.

You might want to check the new stuff. Almost everything is made in China now. Not sure about DeWalt but Milwaukee is.

The only Milwaukee tools I have are a Sawzall and a 1/2" Hole Shooter drill.
You wouldn't believe what I have put them through in the last 20+years.
Awesome tools.

I made the mistake of going harbor freight for an air compressor...figured Id only use every so often why spend a bunch? Well, thats because its a piece of shit and I'm going to have to replace it after 5 or so years.

Anybody have a recomendation for a garage size(25 gallon or so) air compressor?

Sometimes you do ok at HF, most of the time not really.

I got my hammer drill from Harbor freight, it even came with a bit! After I drilled the hole in the fireplace they were happy to take it back!

Ironic how a thread entitled "American Tools" is filled with chinese purchases. Many people don't even know where there shit is made, but think american made shit is the best.

If a product is produced in a foreign country by an American owned company can it still be ""legally" considered American made vs Made in USA?
