To keep it short, I am opening up a brick & mortar watch (wrist and pocket) shop with a partner. On the low-end we would like to do lines like Nixon and Torgoen, on the high, lines like Roger Dubuis and Hublot. While I realize that there might not be a lot of "watch guys" here on Vital, if anyone is, what brand of watches are you buying? What brands would you die to see in a store that you could actually see/hold/try-on?

I have a couple of Rockwell watches, and I have been very happy with the quality. I have a few of the Coliseums, and they get pretty beat up at work (LEO). They have held up far better than I expected them too. Plus, they support our sport, so why not.

I like watches. My son is really into the Nixon ones now. They seem like decent watches for their price point >$500.

My 15 year old Rolex Submariner was $2800.00 new. I feel like it would fetch that right now as new ones are in the 9 grand range I think. I have worn it daily in and around the body shop and it still cleans up like new. Band has a little slop but otherwise has been the best watch ever, bulletproof. I can usually kill the shit out of a watch in 6 months time.

I bought the wife one for our 25th. Not the least bit flashy or gaudy, but very much classy and timeless. Heavy little thing.....

About your wife on your anniversary, that's basically why we are opening up a store, there are very few places that you can go (outside vegas/LA/nyc) and see first hand high-end watches when buying for a special occasion. As the middle class shrinks and the wealthy expand, we think (read- hope) we can make a go of it.

And thanks for all the feedback. Rockwell is big in the moto world and we have looked at it as a line.

I always thought that Rolex was the epitome of high-end watches and the standard for expensive watches until I was reading the Robb report and saw some really high-end expensive watches. I have a friend who does watch repair and he said that the Rolex is a nice watch for the working class but as high end watches go it is the lower end of the spectrum and started showing me the big $$$ stuff. I could see buying a nice Rolex but some of the other stuff cost more than both my houses and all my cars. Blush

I never cared that much about what freaking time it was. I have a Seiko and it is plenty nice enough for me. It is a pretty decent watch. I had an employee show up with a $16,000 Rolex his Uncle gave him as a gift. I told him to take it off and don't bring it back or I was sending him home. I wasn't dealing with it getting lost or damaged.

Panerai. Maybe Hamilton for a less expensive option?

Bell & Ross and Tag/ Heuer is a nice mid-priced watch. The obvious high end watches as well (Rolex, Longines, Breitling, Panerai, Omega). Nixon, Rockwell, for your "extreme" crowd. Then something like a Victorinox. So many good brands out there.

Piaget used to be near the top, probably because of the stupid amount of gems some of them had on them. Not sure where they're at now in the spectrum.

Not sure it's good for a watch to be timeless?

Gotta question, and I'm not a watch guy, so I apologize in advance, but are the Oakley watches any good? My pops mentioned he liked the look of one of them and thought it might would be something he would wear (he doesn't currently wear one either). Of course I know it's not anywhere close to the level of the watches y'all are talking about, just curious if anyone has bought one and what they thought about it.

Rolex and IWC are must haves. Breitling and Omega should be available too in a proper watch place.

My daily driver is a Tag, favorite in the collection is my Breitling.
Does anybody else notice that when you keep you watches in the safe it drains the battery?
It really bums me that when I finally want to wear one of the others after 6 months in the safe
the battery is dead.

Sorry to post from an old thread but I’m wondering if you opened the watch shop, Gt80rider? I’ve a friend who is a horologist and now I find myself lusting over his collection. I did pick up a low cost watch of surprisingly high quality:
