I don't think it is actually out yet. I signed up to receive it but have not received anything yet. I forget when it is supposed to come out.

Edit: I just checked, it comes out for consumers 29 July. For what it's worth, a friend is using it at work and says it is what 8 should have been, so all the Windows 7 holdouts should switch. But that is just one guys opinion.

I signed up for a copy. I will do a clean install when I am ready.

Same as you... Dont want to lose anything.

This is supposed to be the last release? Only updates from now on?

Is a clean install what I need to do in order to not lose anything? I haven't clicked on the popups I have been receiving. I'm just reluctant because if I have to much work stuff going on with my computer that I don't want to sift through in order to do this.

I have been running Windows 10 public beta for a few months now. It is a huge and I mean huge step up from that crap Window 8. They finally got it right. Needs a little more tweaking but it's much better and very pretty too.

I didn't think it was released yet though but maybe it is. I know it's a free upgrade so maybe they are rolling it out.

You will be fine to upgrade and it will be worth it. Go ahead and do it.

No Windows Media Center in windows 10.
I love WMC. It has to be the most sensible program they have ever developed,so of course it has to go.
No windows 10 for me.

Well every other windows release is good so W10 should be good.
It's great that you can connect your Xbox to the computer with W10, really looking forward to try out that feature.

Sorry, should have been more clear. I don't trust the upgrade process and am afraid of losing stuff during it. I have always done clean installs.

A clean install basically means installing from scratch.

You would back everything up to a separate drive. Make sure you have all the programs you want and their keys if needed. Install the OS using the clean install option, then programs then restore your files from your backup.

Maybe someone else can chime in on the upgrade peocess, I have never done it. Going all the way to XP, I always did clean installs.

To the OP, do you back up? Do you take periodic images of your drive?

From the sounds of it, your PC is "mission critical" and before messing with 10 it would be a good idea to image/mirror your drive in its current state so you can revert back if something goes wrong.

Ive had the beta for a while and love it. Its what windows 8 should have been. That being said I run it in a VM on a 5k iMac so I am an apple guy.

I'v got to wonder, did nobody test run windows 8? Just who, within Microsoft, thought that was a step forward?

haha. Me too. I run it on my Mac using Parallels and I also installed one on boot camp if I don't want to run it in a virtual environment.

Many of the programs I run will not work on windows 8 so I bought Windows 7 Pro machines.

I won't be upgrading unless I can verify all the stuff I have will continue to work.

on a side note, My i-phone and i-pad suck worse with every update too.

I think it was released here yesterday - my bro (an IT techy) told me it's basically a glorified version of Windows 7, and he highly recommended I install it, so if I remember later on I shall be doing just that Sideways

Don't worry about backing all your stuff up prior to the update either, no issues losing data during the installation.

You don't need to backup before installing. Grow a pair and get on with it, if my mum can install it without backing up anyone can Grinning

(... although I will definitely be backing up my personal "photos" and "videos" before installing of course... ahem...)

I installed it last night on my laptop, but my pointer/touchpad quit working and I couldn't get it to work. I had to use a wireless mouse in order to navigate on the laptop. I ended up un-installing it. I am not the greatest on the computer and couldn't figure out how to get it to work.
