I played football and ran track in high school. I went on to walk-on at an SEC football program as a defensive back. Ended up getting some playing time on special teams (a little more time than Rudy lol). I wouldn't trade that experience for the world.

Just curious if any of you were serious in any sport other than moto. I actually raced moto from about 8 years old to 15. I stopped riding period once I got serious about football and track.

My dad was the one that convinced me the chance of injury racing motocross wasn't worth it at the time. He was pretty spot on as I had no aspiration of going to pro in the sport.

High School football. Wish my dad would have pushed me a little harder towards golf.

I did play for him, way early on. Definitely a different guy, but being on defense, you honestly don't run into him a whole lot. Never had any problems with him though. As bad as it sounds, big programs loved the walk-ons because they knew we would boost the team's overall GPA. Haha!

That's awesome. So if my memory serves me right, y'all won't a national title pretty early in his time there?

Youngest son was on the high school swim team. Coach, she was a swim Nazi and there was near nothing moto related for us for those fours years chasing him all over Texas damm near every weekend year round for swim meets. His little ass sure was lean and fit beyond belief. Breezed through Marines boot camp right after graduating.

I was always skateboarding and BMXing before moto. Never allowed to race as a kid, and couldn't afford anything dirt bike related for a while after school. I was 25 for my first race, my excuse for sucking.lol

Sure did. As a walk-on, you wouldn't go to away games unless you played or were on the depth chart, but everyone dresses for bowl games. Most people never know how many players college football teams really have. SEC rosters can have 105 players, but there are like 140 or so players on the team. A lot of those other guys would practice, workout, go to meetings, the whole nine, but couldn't dress. There some good athletes that will play on the scout team all 4 years and never see the field. These guys were crucial to the teams success because it got the starters ready.

For example, we had a dude that never touched the field but was one of the fastest on the team, literally. So when we were playing a team that had a mobile QB, they would use him as the scout QB for the week. They would even make fake jerseys that resembled the opposing team lol..They would also often use freshmen they planned on redshirtting to be on the scout teams as well.

Every player on that team got a ring. I'm pretty sure the trainers and equipment managers got one as well. I think that's only fair. Anyone that contributed to the team's success deserves one.

2nd base baseball in high school. I was pretty serious with it and could have gone to a small college if I'd worked my cards right. Didn't exactly work out between baseball, MX, BMX, and girls. That whole combination went sideways and I ended up in the military somehow.

Giygas, at least you're from an SEC school.
By the way, is it true Les Miles eats the grass at every field he goes to? That guy seems to have a few screws loose.

Eh, I don't like to talk crap about people. My opinion is probably similar to most people's, if you know what I mean. *cough* thug *cough*..

Enough about me lol..I really made this thread to see if sports influenced whether you continued racing/riding (I guess I could've worded my title a little better). I wonder if anyone here had to decide like me, dirt bikes or sports. Maybe you did both and just got lucky and never got a serious injury.

Nope, sports started becoming a year round deal for me and the bike was sold around junior high.

Track and cross country , ran my first sub 5 mile in 8th grade . I turned a few heads as a 9th grader running sub 16:30 5Ks .I found girls and partying to be more fun and just tapered off and my results showed it til i stopped running my junior year.

Recruited by Elon College. Played safety and ran back kicks in high school. Elon won the next 2 national championships. I was recruited by Roman Gabriel to play at a JC he was coaching at in CA. I started there my freshman year. Taft beat us in the playoffs and won the National Championship. Played in Sam Boyd stadium. Gabriel's son was our QB. Pretty cool, became good friends.

Nothing after sophomore year. High School was a little over 30 miles away from home, not conducive for every night practices, etc.
