Looking at buying a new 9MM. I currently have a Llama but wanting something a little nicer but with a reasonable price tag. I'm wanting to start shooting a little with some friends, nothing but a little target practice. I'm more of a hunter, actually bowhunter, but I do a little gun hunting. No real experience with pistols except a little plinking here and there, current pistol just sits on top of gun case in case of emergency. Opinions?

Go to the gun store and see what fits the best in your hand.... any of the 'name brand' stuff will be good for you...especially if you aren't shooting 1000's of rounds through it.

Budget? My kid has one of the Springfield XD9's and it shot quite well for me and also seems priced right.

The Springfield is a damn good gun for where its priced. I was 15min late today on getting a Glock 19 Gen4 from a buddy for $400. Coulda punched myself in the face over that one.

Get one of each,lol.

It is best in my opinion to stay with one caliber that way you can stock pile and use in many weapons.

My choice is 44mag and revolvers.

If brown had been shot with it in the arm no way he is going to beat the cop or grab his gun with a stump.

I also have a double barrel 12 sawed off to 9 inches or so with a slight pistol grip i made.

It doesn't carry much punch ery far but I can load it fast. I save all the crank and water pump bearings ,anything with balls, and load shells with them,it may not drop a man but he will see his spleen out the yard ahead of him while running .

I leave junk guns ,rifles, pistols ,in a glass guncabinet so if a break in they et them and neverlook for my stash.

If you live in a urban area you better get something, this riot is going nation wide in a few days.

Love my glock 19. Had the xdm before that and the glocks just fit my hand better. It's all in how it feels.

+1 to the Glock 19. I tell people that I don't always buy loud toys, but when I do... They're built in Austria!! Woohoo

I have the Springfield xd .45, ruger 9mm, carry a ruger lcp .380 on me, and have shot my dads glock .40 quite a bit. Without a doubt, my absolute favorite is the Springfield. It's fits perfect in the hand, crazy easy to break down and clean, and not too bad price wise. Like huck said, the feel in the hand is pretty important. It seems like you have glock guys and Springfield guys, and both are pretty loyal to their brand. I don't have any problems with the glock, it just didn't feel as good in my hand.

No other gun feels as good in hand as a 1911. Complain about them all you want but damn do they ever feel just natural.

I recently got one of these in 9mm. Had to de-burr a spot on the extractor to make it run like a champ but it just feels "right". Semi pricey at about $1400.00.

A 1911 will definitely be my next pistol. They are gorgeous, and you're right about them feeling awesome in your hand. If course, I'm partial to Wilson combat since they are an arkansas company. They are definitely pricey, but holy hell are they beautiful.

There is a big glass cabinet in Houston filled with Wilson Combat, Nighthawk Customs, Les Baer, Ed Browns and a few other high end 1911's. Needless to say, by the time I left Collector Firearms, there were many smudge marks on the glass. I left with only a long slide 9mm 17L Glock, the Glock I've always wanted.

haha, man i hear ya. I drool over guns of any type. I'm one of those "the perfect amount of guns is how many you have plus 1 one more" guys. Just got my son a trusty ol' 10-22 for his 1st birthday. Planning on getting both my boys a gun every year and they should be set by the time they are 18.

Ruger SR 9, Good price, Great gun.
I will not tell you a Glock isn't a great gun, but if you are considering it, shoot one before you buy one.

Went in and fondled a few today. Came away liking the feel of the Ruger and Taurus the best. Have a buddy that has a Beretta that he's looking to get ride of, going to try it tomorrow. I did pick up a Colt 1911 and it actually felt best of all, but its a bit more than I want to spend until I know this is something I'm going to do for a while. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

Don't go playin' with a 22L...you'll get one of those, too!

My 9 is a ruger p89 had it for 14 years or so now. But my go to handgun is a Glock 21 .45. I've had that for 22-23 year now. Never had any trouble with either of these and have shot many rounds through both. I keep the 9mm around cause the .45 is just a bit much for my daughters.

Don't waste money on a 9mm 1911, when you do buy a 1911 get a .45 caliber.

for sure. I'm actually contemplating getting a .45 now. but with the price difference in ammo I'm not sure which route to go. if I knew I would truly shoot as much as my friends then I should probably go with the 9MM, but if I don't I'm thinking .45 for the extra knock down.

We have a very small 'mexican population'... pretty much just the ones that work at the restaurants.

Berryville has all the chicken/turkey barns, so I think it's about 85% mexican over there.
