I was thinking today after speaking with a decrepit elderly person, time is running out on my life!

At only 37, I may have 25 to 30 "Good" years left in me and those will be spent working to pay off this friggin house!

Just think how fast 25-30 years goes, I can remember 10 and 12 years old like it was yesterday. My next thought was were is the money going to come from cuz, it sure aint here right now.

It picks up speed as you get older. Take a deep breath and try not to sweat it. It's just dawning on you that you're included in this whole "mortality" thing. That realization is a real shock but it happens to all of us. Gonna happen, nothing you can do so, relax. I got 20 years on you and while some things suck it ain't all that bad.

Ahh yes the reality of mortality. Sobering aint it? Ive been keenly aware of how many years I "might" have (if healthy and lucky) since I was younger than you JJ. Its sorta been a curse and yet on the other hand its been a daily reminder that "this aint no dress rehersal"

When considering your days on this rock and how you choose to live them, it may help to remember that you are not always going to feel good. Your last decade or two may very well be spent in poor health. So if you plan on living to say 75, you may only be healthy and happy until your 65. And looking at many of the people around me I think 65 might be a stretch.

Happy Trails Wink Reality what a concept

Mortality, yeah we both got a good dose of that around the same time eh dougie? Definately changes one's perspective when you realize that you could be gone in a heartbeat. At 18 it was a real wakeup call because I thought I was bullet proof. Humbling to say the least. At this point I figure i'm ahead of the game.Wink

Remember as a kid how long summer break used to seem? Heck, it was a lifetime between grades...now, it seems like the kids just get out of school, then they're going right back.

Sorry to hear you are bummed about having only 25-30 "good" years left and it's a drag that it seems like most of those years will go to paying off the mortgage. Especially when you say "My next thought was were is the money going to come from cuz, it sure aint here right now."

I am not singling you out but it would be a bigger downer if you got seriously injured riding your dirtbike and could not work and provide for a family or pay the mortgage. You do have good insurance that won't deny benefits if you are hurt while participating in something deemed "dangerous" like motorcycle riding, right? Just saying......

It's good to recognize potential problems and plan accordingly. It's when people don't see the pitfalls of life or do but don't have a plan to deal with a problem when it occurs.

Suck it up!! 40 is the new 30. Or is it the new 25? It's all in the way you look at life. And this is coming from an admitted pessimist.

Don't worry, be happy!!

I feel bad for our kids. We're pushing them to grow up so much earlier.

Anyone ever see The Gods Must Be Crazy? There's a sequence early on about how the "modern" man operates in his society vs. how the "primitive" man survives in his. Not everything we modern men have done is good, that's for sure. Kill yourself for an SUV? It starts sounding more and more like a waste of time.

Knowing you're going to die someday is one thing. Knowing you're going to die soon is quite another thing. Looking into the eyes of the other people at the oncology clinic was surreal. I beat the rap but a lot them didn't.

LOL, yeah, when I was road racing in my early 30s people would ask me if I was afraid of dying or getting hurt racing. Id tell them that after my lil vacation in SE Asia everything else seemed like a cakewalk. If I could live thru that I wasnt going to worry too much about anything else. On the down side it was about that same time that I lost all drive to ever become anything career wise, just didnt give a shit. All I ever wanted to do from there on out was play. Not sure if there is a correlation between the war and my lazyness. Maybe Im just lazy.

Today when someone ask me why I run or do my Tris at my age I tell them...."Im runnin out of Sundays"

Word to the wise, if you want to do something that will require strength or agility DO IT NOW!!

"They're not that different from you, are they? Same haircuts. Full of hormones, just like you. Invincible, just like you feel. The world is their oyster. They believe they're destined for great things, just like many of you, their eyes are full of hope, just like you. Did they wait until it was too late to make from their lives even one iota of what they were capable? Because, you see gentlemen, these boys are now fertilizing daffodils. But if you listen real close, you can hear them whisper their legacy to you. Go on, lean in. Listen, you hear it? --- Carpe --- hear it? --- Carpe, carpe diem, seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary."

I was at a funeral last weekend and took a stroll checking out some headstones.

People die younger than you'd think. Kind of spooked me. I turn 40 next Jan.

Why laugh? You could die tomorrow, and a guy who's in his 60's could live another 40 years.
