DiCaprio is an. . . interesting character.

The movie looks interesting. I was telling my wife I'd like to go see it.

That actual incident/grizzly attack happened a couple hundred miles from here. One of the dudes that left that guy for dead (Jim Bridger) hunted and trapped with my great-great grandfather.

I agree that it looks like a good movie.

Interesting.

Has anybody read any good Trapper type books from the period? I read Journal of a Trapper by Osbourne Russell, edited by Aubrey Haines and enjoyed it.

Here's the great-great granddad: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Meek

I read a book about trapping that my grandfather gave me when I was a teenager, pretty good read. I'll try and find it so I can get a title for you.

Dicaprio is fantastic. One of the few actors who can literally do any type of movie and succeed. I'm looking forward to seeing this.

I've never really cared for the guy, but Wolf of Wall Street was great.

The Mad Trapper of Rat River is a good read. True story. Strange and very tough dude.

While Christmas shopping yesterday I saw "The Revenant" paperback and latched onto it like an attack dog. First sitting I burned through 100 pages, very well written and very accurate in detail. Haven't enjoyed a read so much since "Alone in the Wild". Also reminded me of reading "Call of the Wild" and "White Fang" when I was about 10 years old. Always read the book BEFORE seeing the movie.

I saw the film last night and it was pretty intense. They talked about the process afterwards. Shooting in all natural light and in chronological order presented specific challenges.

I waited on Leo last week at my night job and I must say he's always nice, unassuming and a pretty good tipper.

A chunk of it was filmed at Fortress Mountain about 45 minutes West of me. I like Dicaprio's acting but his observations on climate change are laughable. He experienced a Chinook wind while filming. We luckily experience these numerous times every winter whereby warm winds off the Pacific sweep over the mountains with temperatures rising dramatically as a result. Leo claimed to be terrified and cited it as evidence of man made climate change. He later changed his story somewhat. Politicos had a fun time mocking him.

I went cat skiing at fortress about 2/3 years ago, bit of a creepy place with the abandoned lodge and the lifts sat still.

It snowed 15cm on top of what they already had the night before, best day ever!

Yeah, it was closed quite a few years ago as the lease holders didn't upgrade the access and rickety bridge. Great cat skiing though.

About 30 minutes in, Lotta sound thats for sure.
Dono about all the IP (Think its called) where they put Puter generated characters in the scenes to make them look real.

The Grizzly scene was knarley. not sure how many MEN of MEN can act dead after getting his Back, ribs and arms broken but thats probably what happened a time or ten back in that ERA. tough times for sure.

OK on with the flick!...

looking forward to it, i'm a big Leo fan. really liked him in The Beach and Departed (two totally different roles).

but to be honest, i'm really really looking forward to the Hateful 8... i'm such a big fan of the direction of Django and this has a similar dark western feel to me. hopefully it's awesome

Just finished reading the book, really enjoyed it. Highly recommend reading the book, it's always much better when you allow your own imagination to run wild than following the imagination of someone else. think I'll see the movie anyways.

It's theft. Search"Kickasstorrents" or KAT. DOJ, Google, and various ISPs have been chasing KAT's ever-moving domains for years.

To recap: motorcycle theft - bad. Licensing theft - okay.
