I ran across a hell of a deal on a new pickup that was damaged in a hail storm. Outside of the obvious damage, anything you Texans would know that we no-hail folk wouldn't?

Well, hail rarely comes without rain,so it could have been in a flood.

Some hail storms in Texas reeeeaaaaallllllyyyy f' things up. Got pics? I've seen glass blown out and over 400 dents per panel on some. Yes, 400 dents PER panel.

If its a helluva deal it most likely had glass busted out and flooded out. If an insurance claim wasnt made on it, the flooding wont show up on any reports. I'd pass personally.

Check vents, especially up on the dash. Turn air on as hard as it can blow to check if glass got in the ac system. A bitch to get cleaned out properly. As Dtat said above, there could have been water damage that they havent reported.

Just depends on how bad it really is. Generally, hail sales turn out to be a good deal. A lot of them are even hard to see the damage. You just need a lot more details. Ask them the date of the storm, look up how bad it was. Golfball, baseball et size?

Depends on what you want to do with it.. If you just want something to drive and don't mind the damage, hail doesn't affect drivability. Like the other guys said, water damage is your only concern there.

If you want it fixed, you could be looking at anywhere from $2000 to $4000 for Paintless Dent Repair assuming all panels can be repaired using this method. I just fixed a Subaru Forester last week that was damaged in a recent Texas hail storm. Roof, hood, hatch, & drivers side doors all required conventional repair(replace & paint). When that is the case repair estimates are more in the $6-$8k range in my area. Sometimes more depending on vehicle.

Will you be able to inspect it in person. The hail storms in Fort Worth lately, I don't believe they've been accompanied by TONS of rain lately. Most of the hail storms lately have been moving pretty quick and may dump a half inch in shot time, but unless it was parked in a valley or some other area that has a high propensity for flooding, I would think it would only be the hail damage.

Agreed, Dallas/Ft Worth area has seen huge hail, but no flooding concerns. Houston area, there could be a flooding concern.

TBH,

I drive a 1997 Z-71. 278,000 on the dash....that sumbitch has scratches from front to back, hail damage front to back from a tornado I got caught in out of Grand Isle nebraska. ( drove out of it only to see the state troopers blocking traffic west due to tornado) it was a good day, ended no toes up!

I don't really give two shits about how my vehicle appears......if that thing runs great, new pt and warranty. im so in

With hail dents u give less shit about shopping cart dings etc..

Okay, so what kind of discount are we talking about here? It is pretty common to see discounts of ten to twelve grand near the end of the year as I have bought a couple. Now add in five to seven grand in hail damage and about the same in diminished value and you have a possible deal??? Am I close?

Ford F150 ad just played on the tele as I was submitting that last post. $10,550.00 off a new F150 without hail damage. Just remember you are buying damaged goods even if you have it repaired.

Dealers frequently have better margins selling hail-damaged vehicles, as the hail "discount" is often less than the insurance payout. Plus, as
mentioned, it's a depreciated asset that will have difficulty on the resell market.

Basically, the deal must border on incredible to justify purchasing a damaged new vehicle.

New windshield 250-300 bucks. New hood 200ish. Paint 200ish? Not bad. Or just roll with a new windshield for $7000 you can get shittier cars up north with 150k and are ate up by road salt.

$7,000 discount or the truck is $7,000. If it's the latter, you'd be dumb to not take that deal.

Hey, at least the accent works for Texas. Wink

I've always heard everything is bigger in Texas, but didn't think that slogan included hail. Good grief. That must have been one hail of a storm.

It was an auction (not ebay) which is why I was hesitant to post more details. They're slow and lack of willingness to supply vehicle details scared me away. Insurance estimate to fix was $18000, it sold for just over $11000. Fix the broken glass and mirrors and for use as a work truck would have been a decent deal. There wasn't a horizontal body panel that did not have a dent in it. Sunroof glass was broke out completely.
