There have been 1-2 games there for the past few years. The stadium may sell out, but I think it's viewed like more of a circus side show to them.

I don't get it. The Dodgers opened their season this year in Australia. The whole thing was clumsy. They played a short series with the D backs there and then came back to finish the exhibition season. WTF? They missed out on about 10 or 12 pre season games because of the trip. I never found out who's dumbassed idea this was.

They tried the overseas thing with their international league and nobody really understood it over there. I specifically remember a game in Spain where the fans cheered at the wrong times, they did "The Wave" the entire time and the loudest they cheered was during filed goal kicks. I don't understand why they want Europe so bad before expanding into Canada/Mexico, but Goodell has a strange fixation on it.

So they got excited by the kickoffs, punts, and field goals? That's sad.

When were they chearing, like during timeouts?

I'd like to hear someone's input on the game of American Football who lives in the United Kingdom. The game always sells out pretty quickly.

On another note, what do you guys think causes certain sports to be popular in only some places of the globe? Wouldn't you think it would be human nature to like a lot of the same sports no matter where you're from?

I lived in London for a bit, there are a lot of expats from all over the world in London, so there would be enough Americans fans to sell out the stadium ,

English football will sell out 5 stadiums around London the same weekend,

As for why sports are popular, it's what you grow up with, in nz it's rugby, Australia it makes a difference to what state you are in. Either league or afl. English is mostly football , with rugby being in the private schools mostly,

It has a following in the UK , and has done for 20 or more years, we get games on TV , and Superbowl is on every year , but it was a novelty back then , as an alternative to football and rugby , both of which have their own 'heirarchy' when it comes to spectators...

I never bother , dont get ball sports , full stop , but my boy has friends that go and think its great , i'd rather follow NASCAR seeing as we get most races at least you can watch them in fast forward and still follow it..

And it works the other way as well, the Man U game sold out in the US this year, it will be interesting to see how the rugby game between the nz all blacks and the USA eagles sells like in Chicago in November

I specifically remember a 2nd down and 7 scenario where a short slant went for 4 yards before the player stepped out of bounds. The crowd went crazy as though a touchdown had occurred and both teams looked around like, "what the hell is going on." It was just countless occurrences like that.

For the record, the rumored team they want to move to London is the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Hopefully they move the Raiders to London and get them out of the AFC West so I don't have to watch them twice per year.

You know how people always talk about wanting MX to be bigger? The NFL and MLB would also like their sports to be bigger. There's nothing wrong with taking the show on the road and trying to build a global audience.

I don't think it's shocking that a Futbol crowd would get excited during football kicking plays.

They were probably laughing. A good keeper can boot the ball 80 yards off the ground, no tee, regularly. And the same guy can punt it that far too.

But I am wondering why the NFL sends teams like the Radiers and the Dolphins. They certainly are not top tier teams.

Actually, maybe having the Raiders play outside of America is a good idea. Can all of their games be in London?

I believe the reasoning behind it is low home game attendance numbers. The economy in Oakland cant be all that stellar, so with low attendance numbers comes low exposure. Its funny though, because every time I go to the Oakland vs Denver game at Mile High, I see at least 10k in silver and black.

And how has your experience been?

Mine has been very good with the exception of one time....the Game played on 10/24/10 when The Raiders won 59-14. The place was packed over 75,000 fans.
During the second half a Family of 4 Man, wife and two boys were sitting three rows back and across from us and were egging their boys which were maybe 10 and 12 to yell obscenities to me.

I was lost because I wasn't being obnoxious or anything just cheering.
I was more concerned about how the parents. I didn't have to listen long because the stadium patrol came and escorted them out with a big cheer from everyone even the Bronco fans.

Ive never had a problem there. Granted, I do get tickets in the "high rent" area of the stadium, which I think keeps things a bit more civil, but usually there's some shit talk that goes on, followed by some laughs and more beer. I thing the best one was a couple years ago when trying to get back down my row, a guy goes "Hey raider guy, how many times you been to jail?" and my 100% true response was "none, but the 2 bronco fans I brought with me have 3+ arrests on their record each." which made him shut up real quick.

Any people here from the UK going to the game Sunday?

Wrong. The Jags are not going anywhere. This has been settled numerous times by the owner. He has an agreement to play one game a year in London for four years - starting in 2013. It is considered a "home" game for the Jags. Shad Kahn is simply trying to "fish in other ponds" as he put it. He is a smart guy and a very talented businessman. The locals here all like him and support him. The team finally has a viable QB and personnel that have a freaking clue when it comes to drafting. Horrible draft picks for YEARS by Shack Harris and Jack Del Rio just killed what had been a very successful team in its first 5 years of existence.

I went to the game at Wembley in 2009 (Buccaneers v Patriots). I am myself a huge rugby and football (soccer) fan, and generally most sports in UK/Eurooe really (apart from cricket!!). I would occasionally watch NFL (always tune in for the super bowl) from time to time but not by any means follow it. The sport does have a huge following in the UK, but this is quite often from people with a general love for all things American and the big American sports (baseball, basketball, etc.)

For me I enjoyed the game, but as for watching it live (in person and on tv) I just don't see the fascination. There are so many breaks and advertisements the actual action gets lost amongst everything else. I can't imagine how watching the games live week in week out has the same intensity of say, going to see a premier league football game. The intensity and atmosphere for me is diluted by advertisements in american sports in general.

I hear our sports often criticised with being boring - yes we may have some goalless football games compared to an average NFL game with 4-5 touchdowns. And rugby is often seen as barbaric (Matt Damon movie Invictus really did the sport a huge injustice). But the sheer intensity of football especially creates a match day atmosphere and spirit (which can at times lead to hooliganism which is sad) which in my opinion can never be matched by american sports in their current form.

And I never did understand why NASCAR is so popular lol!

That's my 2 cents anyway ☺
