He could have made a great example and went to the Gulf area for a vacation. Oh well.

WASHINGTON — The first family's summer vacation plans will include a trip to Maine.

The White House says the Obamas will travel next Friday to Mount Desert Island, which is home to Acadia National Park. There will be no public events for the president during the three-day trip.

The Obamas also spent time in national parks last summer, visiting Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon.

It wouldve been a great gesture to go vacation on a west coast Florida beach.

So everyone can call it a opportunistic photo op and what a piece of shit he is for using the Gulf disaster as a PR opportunity?

They could say that all they wanted, but the fact would still remain that he had chosen to set an example. But like most politicians, "Do as I say, not as I do."

I dont think its that big a deal, but it really would have shown leadership and class if he had done that.

Dave, You know it would have been a good move to go to the gulf in order to set a good example for others who are on the fence about whether to go or not.

The northern coast of Florida/Alabama is just as crowded, if not more, than last year at this time... despite all the "world is going to end" propaganda.

The message posted above is most likely my opinion and shouldn't be taken as fact....

No it is not. I spent Vacation time in Destin, Florida last month and there was a very noticable difference in the amount of people there. The water park was about 60% its normal capacity and the wave runner rental place had no wait for rentals like they usualy do. I was able to call in the morning and rent a boat and wave runner the same day. Last year I tried that and there was a three day wait for either. The restuarants are also less crowded. Inastead of a 1-2 hour wait we walked in ans sat right down.

Actually Huck Pensacola is trashed, the sand is brown and in spots if you dig down a foot you hit oil. Also the air smells like diesel fuel. There are some really expensive new restaurants and businesses that probably won't make it, the town is dead. I'm hoping Apalachicola and St Marks will be spared because of the way the coastline is shaped and the gulf currents. You can still get oysters from Apalachicola but the are 65.00 bucks a bushel! I think they were like 25.00 last year. In the 70's they were 3.00.

Isn't at least some of the reason business is off on the gulf coast the same reason business is off everywhere else in this country? A Recession.

You are 100% right, Dave.

Another lose-lose scenario for Obama.

I'm sure he's used to it by now.

Kinda what I thought when I read the first post.

Are you smart enough to buy a bike that costs less, weighs less, makes more horsepower per cubic centimeter, can be rebuilt for recycled aluminum can money and is giggle inducing? It is hard to believe that the American riding public flunks this test en masse. How stupid are you?
