Not New Trucks

Edited Date/Time 12/8/2017 8:44am
I was recently contemplating getting a new truck to replace my 2007 Ford F-150. I bought it new in 07 and hit 100,000 miles last year. It's a 4.6, 2WD, does everything I need it to and hasn't given me any major issues yet. I ended up deciding to keep it and wanted to give it a facelift. I'm shooting for 200,000 miles before I replace it. Who else is doubling down on their current trucks?

Ditch the black wheels. They always look like a guy running 4 spares or Krylon painted stockers to look cool.

Those are actually stock Ford FX2 or FX4 20" wheels and I picked them because they come in black.

I have/had almost a carbon copy situation. I've got an '04, 2 WD (bought new) that I made the same decision on. But Im further along into it as Ive hit 200k. Ill put pics up tomorrow. But, in the plane thread I posted some pics that I took and I was in that truck.

Funny story, about six or seven years ago, my older son and I were in it taking one of the thousands of MX trips together. Out of the blue, he turned to me and said, "I wonder what kind of vehicle I will be driving when I turn 16"? I looked at him and said, "Wonder no longer cause you're in it"!!!

BTW, I like the black wheels.

Looks good, needs a blower now Evil

Btw 200,000 is nothing. All 3 ford's in the garage right now are at or above 200,000

I'm super fucked. I've got an '04 Silverado Z-71 with 58,000 miles. The truck's been a total piece of shit requiring new heads, wheel bearings, instrument cluster, water pump, two steering shafts and HVAC work during those miles even though it still looks new. I'd get rid of the clunky riding bastard but I can't find a truck with less miles for much under $30k. Truck prices are insane anymore so I guess I'll just throw parts at this one for a few more years since parts are cheaper than payments.

I've maintained my 01 F250 to the 222,222 mile mark so far. Anything it needs it gets. Going to be keeping it around for a while longer even if I get a new one. Probably still keep it as the daily driver as I'm anxious to hit a quarter million miles with it. Still have a fresh new leather steering wheel in the box for it as well as a new OEM seat foam and cover for the drivers seat. Cracked open a bottle of champagne when it hit 200,000...lol seemed as good a reason as any to get a buzz on. Laughing

Wow. We have had close to zero problems with new generation chevys. 99 1/2 ton 286k mi. One fuel pump, one thermostat, and one set brake pads on original rotors. Gave it to my daughter she beat it for couple more years and sold it.
2009 2500HD 6.0L 100k mi. Zero repairs, perfect.
2004 2500HD 6.0L 165k mi. Front Brake pads. Instrument cluster went out, missed the warranty so I bought $30 of guage motors online and soldered them in.

My truck is 2010 F-150 FXR. Bought it for 18 grand back in 2014, had 125,000 km have put about 80,000 km on it since I bought it, highway miles mostly.
Runs great, but I have had some issues...

New transfer case.
New upper control arms.
Brakes regularly.
AC does not blow cold, it's the compressor and I can't be bothered to drop two grand to get it fixed but it has a new AC Clutch cause it blew itself apart.

That's it though... considering it was a new. The lifters are a little noisy but hey, I run full synthetic and once it's warmed up the ticking goes away.

Southbound.

I had the same truck ,never had any issues mechanically,my problem was the truck would rot away before your very eyes ,the hole in the drivers side floor was big enough to drop a basketball through ,break lines all rotted out, frame was rotted through . The truck was a beast in the snow with front and rear lockers.

It's under the good damn dash. No access from engine bay, gotta pull the dash apart, that's where the time comes in. I've had three quotes done in shops in two countries, so I just drive in a sports bra with the windows down lol.

Are you referring to the evaporator coil ?

I have had a smoke test done on it, no leaks. Had it recharged twice, it work for a day or two then blows warm again.

That is all I know, and I don't know anything about AC so I just trusted what the mechanics said. They said condensor compressor, whatever the f that is lol.

I'm gonna guess condensor, compressors are mounted on the engine. Spun off the serpentine belt.
Must be leaking

Okay it's the condensor in that case. If it was just that condensor clutch with the pulley on it I could probably do it myself.

I'm at 194,000 miles on my 2002 Ranger and we are in the middle of driving it across the country for the fifth or sixth time. I just had the u joint replaced and it drives like a dream. I'm probabaly going to need some rotors soon.

We just mounted a new hood ornament.

I'm totally with you on the black wheels. I think they're ugly as shit.

But it's cool the kid is keeping the old truck and fixing it up. In hindsight, I wish I did that with my 2002 Tundra.

The evaporator is underneath the dash, the condenser is in front of the radiator, the a/c clutch is on the a/c compressor which is located in the front of the motor towards the bottom and is ran off the serpentine belt. Any honest garage should be able to change any of those items for under a grand, the evaporator being the most difficult located in the heater box under the dash next to the heater core. Hope this helps, winter is on the way anyhow so no need to worry till spring.

They may go a long while but they drive like shit. I've owned a few both 2 and 4 Ed. The 4 WD was dangerous at hiway speeds and the front end was tight.!

I'm going to get 250,000 out of my 94. Then it has my permission to die.

I absolutely love my 6.0 personally I think it's one of the best engines they ever made once the kinks are worked out. Not like the 6.4 where that whole engine is basically done any 200k.

It definitely seems to be love or hate with the black wheels. I'm for them in almost every case, I've got black wheels on my CR250 too.
