New piece for the lady

Edited Date/Time 2/3/2016 9:33pm
For whatever reason my fiancé just fumbles around clearing my glock. Or racking the slide to chamber a round. Makes me nervous because if she's ever in a situation that requires her to use my glock fast I think her being agitated would make the gun useless.

Once she's got the gun situated she does well. But in a sketchy situation, there will only be more fumbling around.

But, I just feel like she needs something reliable and easy to operate. She has told me she prefers are heavier trigger pull.

So I picked her up this taurus ultra-light 38 special m85 today. I'm going to give it to her for her birthday coming up in a couple weeks. Well I mean sell it to her for $1Woohoo . As she's not a criminal and resides in my state. Tongue Just point and shoot. No hang ups. No jams. If it doesn't fire just pull the trigger again.

Any ladies you guys know use one of these snub nose revolvers?

I have a .38 S&W Revolver and I hate it. I hate it for the simple reason that I don't like carrying with one in the pipe with a hard trigger pull and no safety. When I do carry it, I only put 5 in and make the first pull a click. If you are not handy with a gun this can be difficult and even dangerous to figure out. I own a Truck Wash which is nothing more than a glorified car wash and I usually only carry when I am there at night working. So I am all the time bending over climbing ladders, wearing thick clothing and be very mobile while working. I just don't trust being active and carrying with one in the pipe.
I carry a much smaller gun 99% of the time which is a Ruger LCP .380. If I pull it, I have to rack it but that does not bother me. I like it because it is safe. I never put one in the barrel and I can simply drop the clip when I take it out and easily check it before putting it in the soft case that comes with it. I also never leave the clip in while it is in the case and each time I take it out, I always check and make sure someone wasn't messing with it and put one in the barrel without me knowing. The nice thing about the LCP when checking it is that you can tell immediately by the trigger pull if it has one in the barrel. But I don't rely on that, I rack it and clear it each time. I'm overly cautious but that is what makes me comfortable. Carrying a revolver does not make me comfortable. I'm more scared of what I can accidentally do to myself rather than the feeling of safety I should be feeling by being armed and protected. But this is just my opinion. I usually just carry in my pocket and not in a holster.

Yea I mean I would strongly suggest a holster that encases the trigger frame. Eliminates the risk for snagging the trigger firing....

If youre loading the first round empty you're already one step behind. I'd be more paranoid about no round being chambered than having to rack or pull the trigger twice on a revolver to get one shot off...

im not judging you or trying to tell you how you should carry, but I know id be freaked out carrying anything just in my pocket.

And maybe the revolver isn't a good idea for my fiancé....kinda questioning it now. But I think there's no simpler platform than a revolver....I don't know. We have been broken into twice and I'm not always home just want to give her an edge over an intruder anyway possible.

No, I agree a holster would be much better but I put coveralls and jackets on and off over and over, it is kind of impossible. I at least want to keep it where I can get to it. Honestly, I feel no risk from intruders, robbers, break ins ect. I'm not in the same situation as you. But I do feel better having it on me at night when there is not a large crowd of people around. My main concern is meth heads and crack heads. I have a parking lot where there are shady characters that come from who knows where. There are times I have to tell people to gtf out, don't come back, not here ect. Who knows what can happen when you have to do that. That is why I carry. But for me, I'm not worried about trying to get my weapon out and shooting in .oooox seconds.

I have the exact same gun, its nice for concealed carry... But the 9ish pound trigger pull is a bit ridiculous. She should be able to squeeze it off a handful of times but that's about it. Did you consider the glock G42 or 43? Or the S&W shield? I picked the 42 up for my dad and I have the shield. Both phenomenal guns. Anyways, the Taurus is great for carry only. Don't expect her to hit much of anything or be able to target shoot with it.

I love revolvers, but they are not practical compared to what is offered by other manufacturers. Just my opinion as I search for a python in my price range haha.

My wife carried a charter arms .38 for a moment because it was comfortable and easy to carry... until she shot it. Loves the g42 but carries the g43 now.

I still find it absolutely mad how you guys can just pop out to get bread and milk, and come back with a gun like it's no big deal. Surreal in my world.

I think you're oversimplifying it a little bit, at least as far as handguns go. But I think once you've passed the background check it's a relatively easy transaction after that.

I know that buying a long rifle at the local Walmart is fairly easy, but plan on hanging out there for about an hour or so while the guy behind the counter figures out how to correctly do the electronic 4473 and checks serial numbers about 30 times. Then he has to find a manager to check everything over another 30 times before they escort you all the way outside before they will actually hand you your rifle.

So not quite the same as running after groceries but it may seem that way if you aren't really allowed to be able to defend yourself I guess......

I can't get over the price. Every dickhead would have a gun over here for £150 including me!

Quite jealous.

My wife doesn't feel comfortable with a semi auto handgun, so she requested a .38 snub nose. She feels comfortable shooting and handling it and that is all that matters. Hopefully your wife will like it, if not I'll take it off your hands as a backup Smile

That gun was only $269? That seems like a hell of a deal. My wife mildly hinted that she wanted to try a wheel gun and I've been going through trying to figure out what to get her. That Taurus looks like it may be the ticket.

The only Taurus I've ever shot was The Judge. I'd argue that The Judge is probably the most pointless gun in the world. Lol. But it was fun to fire off a .410 buck shot, bird shot and colt .45 I believe through that all in one sitting.

There are lots of debates over exactly how to carry. One in the chamber, not in the chamber, where to carry etc. . . you already know this. It's kinda like the 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke debate. In the end, do what works for you and let everyone worry about themselves. Lol.

I am supposed to be getting my LTC in the mail within the next two weeks. Any day now actually. I called yesterday and the lady said it has been sent to be printed. I bought a hard plastic OWB holster and really like it. I WILL NOT be carrying openly. But I couldn't find an IWB holster that was comfortable. This holster sits higher on your hip so a t-shirt can conceal it properly. The finish on the holster is really comfortable.

Oh and I absolutely love shooting the Shield. Such an easy gun to shoot. Just wish the mag could magically hold about 5 more rounds without adding any size. Ha.

IMO the nicest part about a revolver is if you pull the trigger and it doesn't fire, you just pull the trigger again. No fumbling around trying to unjam anything or rack another shell, just click click click boom...

That being said, I carry a Glock

I carry the LCP, too. I love it. As far as holsters go. I use one of the back pocket wallet style holsters. It works well for me. I typically wear more of a slim fitting pant (no, not skinny jeans) and haven't found a IWB holster that I like. The wallet holster is a great compromise. It's concealed, out of the way and easy to access.

GP740 - My wife didn't get along with the semi-auto I gave her either. So, she tried out the S&W airweight, Taurus and a Ruger all in.38 cal.
She liked the Ruger LCR the best for feel and she was the most accurate with it. It shoots +P rounds as well. Not sure if the Taurus you got will shoot +P's or not or if it even matters to you.

I actually carry it sometimes just for something different.

As far as going out for bread I basically did just that. Went to the bank to pull out some money for wedding expenses. Stopped in at the worlds smallest mom and pop gun shop, started bullshitting. Liked what I saw in the 38 special. Couldn't believe the price, I asked him if it was used. He said no. Brand new. I haven't seen them for less than 329 plus tax. So, I said well screw it lets do paperwork I can sell this thing for 300 if she doesn't like it. The guy says "oh cool well I'll take another $10 off" (after I already committed to buy--nice guy. Won't find that at bass pro shop or gander mountain!) 20 minutes later I'm on my way home after PASSING A BACKGROUND CHECK.

And, Yep it shoots the +P. Light weight. Couldn't pass up the price for 277 out the door. Plus Taurus gives a 1 year nra membership with any new gun purchase. Didn't know that until I got home and checked the website. Unknown Perks are sweet!

If I could get My fiancé comfortable operating a shield id buy her one. I love mine with an bianchi leather IWB holster.

Yea more like 5 o'clock. I forget it's there. Don't even feel it in the truck seat. Real good spot for me. Easy access.

I ended up settling with a Desantis Intruder IWB for my Sig. It looks big and uncomfortable, but once it's worn a bit it fits nicely to your body. The shirt covers it better than with my OWB that I was using. Definitely worth the money and worth checking out.

Leaving aside the FAC, club membership costs etc, you can get working firearms for as little as £50 here but that'd be for something pretty ropey - though for £150 - £200... you could pick up something that's perfectly serviceable, even nice. However on a 'like for like' basis (when that's possible with our laws), I agree we tend to pay through the nose here. Typical Britain.

When I was buying mine. A nice lady came in. Sold her late husbands old revolver for 150 to shop owner. Before I was finished buying, someone else bought that revolver for 200. Wasn't even in the shop for a full hour!!

That looks like a really nice holster. I've been carrying my shield with the aliengear holsters. I have both the IWB and OWB. I actually like the OWB better. My shirt conceals it very well. The IWB is a little big, so I don't use it much anymore. I'm gonna have to check out the bianchi I think. I carry the Taurus as a back up at work (police) around my ankle. It was very easy to get used to, but holy hell ankle holsters are expensive.

Good holster and cant go wrong with Andrews leather. The biggest downfall with them can be the turnaround time.

So I gave her the gun tonight. We went to the range. She loves it. When she opened it she's like "oh wow look at that cute little thing, that's what I picture when I think of a gun."

She did really well. Bought her some snap caps to practice that LLLOOONNNNNGGG trigger pull. At the range she started pulling the hammer back and using the single action. Much more accurate when she did that.

I also modified the gun slightly. It's hard to get a good sight picture, so I took a yellow paint stock and painted the front site for her. After that she was hitting in the 3 ring at seven yards consistently.

I was exceptionally surprised with the accuracy. It does have a slight bite for recoil, but the soft large rubbery grip really makes it feel great in your hand. It fits her hand perfect, mine is slightly too large but this is for her. Not me. On the way home she goes "that's a good gun for me at home." Very simple, she was loading and unloading like a breeze.

Highly recommend this piece for all vitalwives!
