I have an Akai 747 that can't have more than a couple of hours on it. It never really did work right and I even sent it in to get it fixed and it came back still not working right.

The school music department had that r2r on loan and it wasn't theirs to eBay off. Pioneer wants it back so they can crush it.

Holy crap, I had no idea these things were worth this much. I just found my Akai 747 on ebay and they want $1600 for it! Maybe I need to blow the dust out and see if it works and ebay it up. Smile Seriously, it's probably not have more than about 3 reels through it. Smile Daddy needs race tires. Smile

Shit, that would get me through a couple of weekends!!! I guess I'll fire it up this evening and see what I got. I know I still have the box and manuals and stuff for it as well. I also have a whole slew of various Technics stuff (power, control amps, turntable, etc) and some Klipsch La Scalas and KG4s. Wonder if any of that stuff is worth anything?

WTF? You got some LaScalas? Dude I want 'em if they arent trashed! Ive been jonesin' ever since I sold those nice Cornwalls I restored. And of course that other stuff you got will sell, you kiddin?

Whatever you do, dont thread that deck up with that old tape unless you are positive its doesnt have the old 'sticky shed' problem from those old days. It will gum up the heads, tape path and pinch roller. And speaking of the roller, if you had that stored in a hot place, that roller might be FUBAR. Be sure to check into that before you plug it in and press PLAY and smash it against the capstan, you might end up with a mess.

Lastly, since its been setting that long, it honestly would be a good idea to put each piece of that gear thru a dim-bulb test so you dont smoke any of it. Doesnt cost much and can honestly keep you from turning a piece of gear that might only need a capacitor or two, into a smoking & sparking belching dumpster fodder.

Wouldnt have a clue on cleaners for that, sorry. Cant believe you are having to recap a new flat panel? Is it the Bravia?

If the ICs are an ongoing issued, Id buy a few extras. Once an IC goes outta manufacture, that part will become unobtanium!

That is why ALL my audio gear is pre-1980 and 100% discrete electronics , no ICs and it will always be rebuildable. ICs bascially ushered in the BPC plague and its been that way since.

Thats cool ! Did you ever bring it stateside? Nak made some of the most impressive mechanical works of art ever. I used to have an entire Nak system

Three PA-7 power amps
CA-7A preamp
ST-7 tuner
Dragon Cassette

Heres the stack (hadnt got the Dragon yet here, acquired a few weeks later)
