Time has come to purchase a new all in one but after a visit to OfficeMax I was shocked at the price of laser toner especially color ones.

Which one should I buy?

Depends on how much you print. Compare the cost of the toner and ink vs the yield. Price per page is more important than the hardware cost. Toner for a laser jet is cheaper to run and it usually doesn't take that long to make up the price difference between the two if you print a lot. If you just want to print something out every now and then a inkjet would be fine. You can also look at compatible cartridges to lower the operating cost of the laser jet but I wouldn't recommend using a compatible inkjet cartridge. Xerox makes brand new compatibles for HP lasers that's much cheaper than the HP brand.

What ever you do don't buy an HP ink printer. The color ink cartridges evaporate so fast even with out using color. And the stupid thing is, if two color cartridges are out. The printer will not print period!

I now have a brother laser black/white only and love this thing!!!!

About 5 years back i bought a cheapo 70$ brother laser printer from amazon because my GF needed it for school, I figured it was going to be a POS since it was so cheap but this thing just works. I put a cartridge in it which was like 50 bucks (almost as much as the printer lol) but its still going!. I still have the printer and it just flat out works for everything I need it for. I sell a lot of stuff on ebay so I print out shipping labels at home and just drop the packages off at the post office, no waiting in line.

Laser also works well if you don't print that often.

Another vote for a Brother Laser printer. I have a couple of them on standby, but they've just stayed there. I prepare 900 tax returns a year, and I'm mobile. The printer is strapped in a suitcase and is hauled from house to house all over Northern Utah. When I plug it in and turn it on, it just works. 4 cases of paper a year, a new drum unit once a year and several toner cartridges.

There are plenty of online resources for discounted toner cartridges. I haven't had any luck with non-Brother drum units so I just bite the bullet and buy the Brother one. Mine is going on 8 years old, and they don't make the model anymore, but I do find them on e-bay. Mine are black and white, but I have heard similar stories about the color.
