Anyone catch this?

I DVR'd it and was watching it late last night...what those guys (German SS) did to those small villages was just cruel and disgusting. Rounding up entire towns, separating the men from the women and children...putting the women and children in a church or school...and then burning them alive. Then digging a big hole and shooting all the men.

Or, they would just round up some people...and hang them from street polls or balcony's along the streets of the towns...and leave them there to scare the people into not resisting. One time the germans killed a guy, burned him, and then tied his body to the front of a vehicle and drove through the town.

It's almost unbelievable the cruelty of it all.

And these people were helpless to protect themselves...and were herded like sheep. (I'll keep my guns, thank you very much).

I know right?

People fear these lone shooters...and governments use it as justification to take away guns. Governments have done far worse things than any lone wolf shooter could do...no thanks...I'll keep my guns.

My grandparents escaped in to woods with their 6 children. They did burn down newly built house and a barn though.

I can't imagine what that would have been like...much respect to your grandparents, and I'm sorry for the friends and loved ones that they surely lost.

That whole holocaust was some of the most inhumane evil I've ever read about. Possibly one of the cruelest people was Doctor Josef Mendel. It's really a shame that he didn't have to face his victims. The dude had an obsession with twin children. He performed his most cruel "experiments" on them. That kind of stuff makes me believe in cruel and unusual punishment. The suckiest part of Mendel is that he hid or destroyed his documents showing what all he "tested" on the jews.

I've been to the Holocaust museum in Dallas when I was in high school. They piled us all into a railroad car just to see what it was like.

Those death showers were probably the biggest psychological hurdle for the jews to get over. Any time you went to the shower, you never knew if it was the end.

There aren't that many people that deny the Holocaust are there? I mean I know there is a conspiracy theorist for everything out there, but the holocaust is one I don't have any reservation about.

At one point, I had heard that there were a lot of huge medical advancements from the holocaust experiments. I've tried to look for the advancements, but you can really only find vague articles talking about the actual experiments performed on the jews.

I've been to Dachau, in the camp. I can't put to words how it made me feel. Not to mention those people and their families that went through all of that only to have people say it didn't happen.

Holocaust had nothing on what russians did in Ukraine. They starved to death up to 10 million people. 28000 men, women and children were dying every day. If you went on a field and stole just one ear of grain, you were executed on spot. People were dying on a streets and carriage would just drive around and pick up dead.

Yes, many believe that germans were better than russians. Not SS, but regular army.

Question for those of you who have been there. Is it possible for one to tour from Normandy, France to Germany and still get a feel for how it played out as far as historical monuments and landmarks? I'd love to do this type of tour and visit the concentration camps as I've been an avid WW2 historian since I was old enough to look at the pictures in my dads books. Both of my grandfathers fought in the war with one being a POW and the other being a guard at Nuremburg during the trials after the war due to not having enough time served to go home. He used to tell fascinating stories about guarding the Nazi elite, especially Herman Goering.

The depravity of the human race is mind blowing. Every country has its ghosts, just need to dig a little. Do you know it was us (uk) that came up with the concentration camp during the boar war! Went to the London dungeon as an adult and had nightmares for quite a while. The shit we have invented to prolong death and tourture. Spoke to a few old boys years ago in Bulgaria about ww2. They admitted to joining the German army just to fight Russia in retaliation of what they did before.

Guessing it was an iPhone autocorrect, but the last name was Mengele. Evil son of a bitch, for sure. Hard to imagine the abuses suffered in those times. Father of a friend of mine was Polish, spoke flawless German. Actually found a uniform to fit him, and wandered around dressed a Wehrmacht soldier for quite a while, until he was finally caught, and sent to a camp. Amazed he wasn't shot, but someone on the other side must have had a soul.

The camps were created because Himmler attended a few mass executions, and felt that method of "shot to the back of the head, fall forward into the pit with the others", was inefficient and messy. Officers would get blood on the uniforms and boots, as well as a waste of ammo. Jesus.........

Two buildings like the above are at Dachau, although replicas using the same materials. Very sobering to go through.

The shower buildings are still up at Dachau. Contrary to most beliefs, gas deaths really only occurred at Auschwitz, simply because they had more room to deal with the bodies. However, there still were sporadic gas deaths at Dachau which still has two buildings that I went through.

Really is sobering to witness that while also meeting relatives in Koblenz.

Uber patriotism. Define that. You can't be afraid of me. Lmao. Still without a doubt I don't want to discount he atrocisities. What hitler achieved is sickening. I pray to Christ it never is achieved again. Ever.

The boy in the striped pajamas is a very moving film.

Never lose touch of how close the human race is to barbarism. It's right there. Just under the skin. The stories of humanity come through, but they are the exception. Not the rule.

Little off topic but The Pacific is a really good miniseries, shows some of the brutal events of war. It's crazy to watch the Hollywood series as it is, I couldn't imagine what that combat felt like

The images above are really chilling when you picture the stuff that went on there. I had a science teacher in middle school who had her serial number tattooed on her . The wall had just come down about that time and she handed out these big posters of it coming down ,she saw one on the floor in the hallway next to my locker and figured I had threw it on the floor ,she ran up one side of me and down the other about the horrible stuff she lived through and what it meant for that wall to come down, luckily I just got my locker opened and showed her it wasn't mine.

Out of a family of 14 only 2 members of my family (my great grandfather and great grandmother) were able to escape Poland and make it to the United States before being murdered by the Nazi's.

To everyone saying, "this could never happen in the United States", crack open a history book and do a little research. I'm not saying that we would ever reach the point of mass exterminations in the United States but the vast parallels between what was going on in Germany pre-WWII that lead to the rise of Nazism and Hitler compared to modern day America and the rise of you know who is alarming.

Yup.

Hitler didn't come out of the gates saying, "WE NEED TO KILL ALL THE JEWS!!!". He tapped into a movement much akin to the poor / middle-class white American that feels he has been denied his right to "the American Dream" because he doesn't have the perfect wife, perfect job, perfect kids, perfect house with the perfect white picket fence. Meanwhile he looks all around him watching women, gays, black, immigrants, etc. achieving the success he was promised and a natural resentment / anger builds because he fails to acknowledge that the deck has always been stacked in his favor.

There is a great book on this subject called, "Angry White Men". It came out in 2013 and perfectly predicted the political climate we would find ourselves in this year. It's a great read – I highly recommend it.

Here is a paradox. If germans were to spare my grandparents house, it`s 99.9% chance all of our family would be sent to Siberia, to gulag and I might have never been born. Russians sent to gulags everyone who owned a land and property in Latvia.

Those of you interested in this, should look into Unit 731. Its very NSFW. Its one of the secret Japanese bases during ww2 where they carried out some of the most horrific war crimes ever against the chinese, koreans, and mongolians. Basically making the Nazi scientists look like altar boys. The scale was no where near the Holocaust, but its something that is often glossed over in history. Many of the Japanese scientists were granted immunity in exchange for data they gathered on their experiments/bio-weapons.
