Freakin gnarly! dude who pulled his cord is a hero!

"Possibly the scariest moment of my life. On the 14th of November 2014 while doing stage five of my Accelerated Free Fall program I have a near death experience.

At around 9000ft I have a seizure while attempting a left hand turn. I then spend the next 30 seconds in free fall unconscious. Thankfully my jumpmaster manages to pull my ripcord at around 4000ft. I become conscious at 3000 ft and land safely back to the ground."

Reminded me of the guy that passed out while free diving in like 100 feet while chumming the fish up into spearing range. One guy passed out and was drifting down unconscious to his death when luckily his buddy spotted him and with no air left in his lungs charged down after him but he was drifting out of reach. So he shot him with his spear gun and miraculously got his fin. They pulled him up foaming and bleeding out of his mouth but resuscitated him back to life. They are all part of the Floridasportsman forum. Crazy story.

I'm guessing that will probably be his last free fall?

Had his buddy pulled his chute before him, he would have been a pancake. Unless what KMC is saying is true. I like dare devil stuff, but I'm just not interested in sky diving.

Crazy situation. I wonder if while he was out if he had ones of those dreams where he was falling and right before he hit, he woke up only to realize he WAS falling.

I've only been once(tandem dive), and it was fun as hell. Landing was rough, but that was my fault. He told me to lift up my legs and land on my butt, but once we came in to land, I realized we were coming in hot, so instinct told me to hit the ground running. That whole "legs up" plan went right out the window. Kind of hard to run with another person on your back, so we ended up lawn darting then rolling a few yards.

It's awesome. That's about all I have to say about that, haha

They have devices that will trigger the chute. I'm not sure I'd want that to be my only option as I plummeted toward the dirt unconscious though, so good on the other guy.

I'm guessing that dude was a student in something similar to the AFF program. He most likely would have had some sort of AED like a Cypress. They’re set to deploy the reserve chute at a certain altitude if you're falling faster than a certain speed. With that said it's still very possible to die during a hard landing with a good canopy over head. (Happened to a friend of mine last year.)

I was never afraid of heights until I went skydiving once. Go figure.
