For those of you that know Von

9/4/2012 2:40 AM

He was struck by a car today on Highway 50. He was exiting a bus and tried to bolt across the street. You may have seen it on the news and local newspapers.
He is at ORMC in Super Critical right now. I am am in the Critical care now - with no hope of seeing him before his emergency surgery in a few hours.

Please send a prayer. It is touch and go at this time.

Many of you know him from the races over the last 12 years that I raced. He accompanied me to many of the races. He is still my stepson of 17 years.

Really most everyone that was on the Florida circuit knows Von.

Maybe a million prayers will help.

Sometimes, Gravity just sucks.

Tim, is this the one I saw on the news of two boys running across 50 yesterday, or is this a separate incident?

My best wishes and thoughts to Von and the entire family

Best wishes to your step son. Very tough. My thoughts go out to him recovering. My heart hurts for you both.

I'm deathly afraid of marriage because statistics suggest 50% of American marriages last forever.

Thank you for all of your thoughts. Von had brain surgery earlier today. He had the fragments cleaned out from the impact. We hope it went well. If there are any good doctors that want to step up, I would be very grateful.

I saw Von earlier tonight. Strangely, he is in the same hospital and the same floor as my injured worker "Wil", last month. They were in the same ward. (Maybe the same room/bed)

In a quick nutshell: he is not scheduled to die tonight. Really, that is the best news. He has been stabilized, but is scheduled for many many surgeries over the next 5 days - all depending on his Brain activity.

The in house nurse staff says that he should make through just fine - physically, He has many broken (large) bones.

It really comes down to the brain trauma.

I am quite pragmatic tonight, I cannot cry anymore. There are are no more tears inside my head.....maybe tomorrow.

Tim, so sorry to hear. You have been going through so much lately. I hope for the best recovery for your friends and that everything balances out in your life. You deserve some peace.
Thank you for posting. These things pile up and sometimes it feels the world has no mercy. Ill save the story but I wasn't able to talk to anyone about a run of tragedy in my life and once I ran out of tears it got to the point I thought of doing some bad things as a sort of vengence on "life". Just please take care of yourself and be there in positive spirits for your friends recoveries.

He had both his femurs set yesterday, also they plated his arm and wrist. They will do the skin graft soon for his other arm.

He is still in a coma; he could wake any day or not. There is just no way to know.......

About the Dr. remark earlier; It turns out that he has some of the best Dr's in the world at ORMC. I have heard of some really bad stories at other local hospitals though.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers..... It looks like they are getting through.

I will not post on this again in Vital. Updates are on Facebook if you want to check in.Thanks everyone for the support.

Hey Guys.....
I thought you deserved an update. I have been a little bit emotional in the last 21 days.

I have spent the last 10 days with him in In the ICU Neuro. The family (we) have been trading shifts every few hours.

He is spotting people with his good eye. He has no response to direct questions.....actually....he does look to the person asking the question. We are in a waiting situation for the extent of the brain injury.

He was flown today to Shepherd in Atlanta. It was a Medical Flight company that transports critical care patients. The costs are mounting....if you want to really help, please look at the link I have provided.

I know you get money requests all the time. please do not worry if you are short......even the smallest amount will help offset the expenses for his mother to relocate to Georgia. I understand she is sleeping in his room tonight.

I found the link that you can help Von.....the plane ride was ridiculously expensive today. It really comes down to money.....

Thanks so much for all of your opinions, they have helped so much!

Our very best wishes to everyone involved in this tough time.

Thanks, not trying to beg for money......I really just wanted to update his friends in the MC community.
The money thing always helps.
