I watched the Springfield mile from May, I have not been following the sport

I knew they restricted the Kaw this year but it doesn't matter.
mostly Kaw out there.

I saw... Kaw Ex 650, H-D 750XR, Aprilla 1000, Suz. Sv 1000
Garth Brow still races, no one was there hardly. I guess make them all run pushrods if you want fans in the stands.

When we lived in St. louis we had several close Nationals and a friend owned an 883 team.
Not many motorsports as exciting as mile racing and as dangerous.

I believe it's heads up now. No restrictors for any machine. This past Saturdays race, the Mega Mile in Virginia (1-1/4 mile track) had the Kawasakis take the top three spots in the Expert main.

Brian Smith came from the penalty line (fourth row) after jumping the start, had the lead by the fifth lap , and checked out.

He was clocking straight away speeds in the 140 mph range.

Speaking of Garth, that is him in my profile pic, getting his head run over by the late Willie Crabbe.

Damn, my Ninja 650 would never come close to 140. 130 was about max on that bike and that was down hill with a tail wind. Wish I knew what their secrets were to get more ponies out of it because I loved the bike and would have loved to road race it in the lites class. Smile

Void, most of the fast EX kawi's are in the 730-740cc range, via a stroker crank. Rick Howerton, of the Indy car crowd, I believe built the winning EX engine of Brian Smith. Far from stock.

Dirt trackers always know how to get more ponies outta an engine than asphalt sissies. Wink
