Just installed it. I wanted to display youtube on my 55" TV and pipe the sound through my stereo. I like to play along with songs on my guitar and it works really well. It's one of the ways that I learn songs. This was a big tech step for me but I'm guessing it's pretty easy shit for some of you guys. Now that I already bought it, what else could I have done besides the chrome cast?

I can't figure out how to hook my laptop to my TV for the life of me , i have tried 2 different hook up options and did numerous google searches but my laptop just doesn't recognize the tv as a viable monitor ,the tv has a pc input.

That's odd. I have Chromecast, but before that, I ran an HDMI cable from the computer directly into one of the ports on the back of my TV and it worked like a champ.

My laptop is from 2007 ,no HDMI output . I've actually been searching around to find a new kick ass laptop to replace this one.

I've been using a chrome cast for about a year and a half now. It's pretty cool. Kinda sucks that if you are watching an embed video it doesn't have the ability to link up to the chrome cast. You must be in the you tube app for it to work. I haven't been able to get my old 2007 lappy to connect either. Only able to use the iPhone. Netflix and Hulu work fine.

Did you go into your control panel and change the display to show on an external display?

This is the question that popped into my mind. Another option would be to install an HDMI port but with a 2007 computer, I'd just go buy a new one with an HDMI port already on it.

Do you watch other artists play and then repeat what they do or do you read tab or music? I just got a sound bar with BT capabilities and I like playing music from my phone over the sound bar. Back when I played guitar, I'd hit play and pause on my iphone constantly but I had to be close to the radio because I had the headphone jack plugged in. I also played bass and sometimes it was difficult to pick up on the bass line in a song. So I'd have to constantly be jacking with the volume on my stereo. I'd suggest a sound bar or surround sound with BT capabilities if you don't already have that.

I believe Chrome Cast is probably the most efficient way to get picture and music from your computer to your TV wirelessly though so it's not like you added any unnecessary grief.

Most of the time I just listen and repeat. Sometimes it's helpful to see where they are on the neck but I can usually tell. If there's a song I hear that I like sometimes I will just google the name of the song followed by "chords" and it pops up. What's fun for me is to crank it all up loud and play along doing my best to blend in. The only issue is that the tuning from song to song can be off a little. My latest favorites are Wicked Game by Chris Isaak and After Dark by Tito and the Tarantulas. Having Salma Hayek dancing in a bikini on the screen can be a little distracting though.

My receiver connects to my wifi. I can then join the receiver hub with any device including iphone, computer. Makes it easy for dummies like me.
