I know many of us are proud fathers, so let's hear it.
My 16 year old son is doctor-shadowing. He wants to be a trauma surgeon. This all came from some doctors saving my life in front of my son...and he says he wants to save the life of loved ones.
He's been working in two trauma centers (St. Anthony's North and St. Anthony's Central here west of Denver). Last night he worked until 1 am. Trauma doctors have to remain on duty until their patients are admitted into surgery, and the three patients my son was attending to needed emergency attention (one guy cut off his digits on a table saw, an elderly lady fell and my son and the doc had to stitch up the laceration on her face, and the third had no insurance but was suffering from gall-stones). Apparently docs and surgeons don't get paid for those who don't have insurance, but are still legally liable for their work. Honestly...something needs to be done with the health care in this country. Anyway, I'm gonna leave behind a young man who is a much better person than me. My job's happily done.
Let's hear about your kids, regardless of what they do. If we parents can do anything, it's through our kids.

That is great to hear, you did a great job with him. My daughter has been great from the start. i don't know how I got so lucky. Smart, honest, beautiful and a leader and in no way a follower. She is a natural at all her sports and has been the captain of her volleyball and basketball teams. She goes to one of the best high schools in the country and her teachers love her. She loves her dogs and we made this trip to the mountains because she wanted her dogs to see snow before they are to old to enjoy it which is the least we can do for her.

He still lives in a small world compared to your teenage kids but he's doing great so far.

Well my 16 year old son is a high honors student once again this year.
We actually pulled him out of public school in 7th grade to go to the private college prep school he is in now.
Expensive as all hell but worth it.
This year as a Junior in High School he is completing AP Chemistry and AP Literature which will give him college course credits.
Has also had 3 years of languages including Latin and is currently doing his 3 year in Music Theory.
His Musical Composition class is working with the Dance department of the school to compose original music for the Spring events.
He is getting ready to start his 9th year racing MX, something that we have always shared since he was a little tike.
It's not a "someday I'm gonna be a pro" thing....just the best time a father and son can have together.
Not sure what he is going to pick for a career right now but whatever it is you can bet that I will be the proud as hell guy standing right behind him.

So good to hear dads who give a shit. Since I've been single, I've met far too many divorced ladies whose ex husbands walked away from their children....extremely sad.
I wish I would've had more kids (ex got sick and her first was her last). I learned so much from my son. Treat them with love, respect, give them your time, and let them find their way. All I had to do was show him how to be a good person....he figured out the rest all by himself, as any child would.

Very happy that things are going well with you and your son. But there are a lot of mothers that walk away from their kids also.
I personally don't understand how anyone could walk away from their kids.

I have two son's. One that 31 and the youngest is 26.
Contrary to what some here like to believe, my oldest was one of those "spoiled little amateur stars" . You know, the kid's that don't know anything because they were home schooled, and to stupid to make it in the real world when they don't make millions in racing. He is a project manager for a fire protection company, and his work ethic has paid out for him after racing. My youngest is also doing well and is a purchasing manager for a commercial construction company. . Both have done well, and both know what really matters in life. I also have a three year old grandson that is the apple of my eye.
Both have made me a proud father,

Both kids out of the house by 18, what more could a parent want?
Oldest is in his final year as an apprentice pipefitter. If there exists a kid that is more responsible or a better son than him, I sure haven't seen it yet.
Youngest is in her second year of undergrad school, on her way to some day becoming a patent attorney. Again, couldn't ask for anything better. Did I mention she's really, really smart?

My boy is a 0602 1st Lt Marine officer stationed in Okinawa, Japan, serving as Techcon platoon commander. He is currently in Korea on assignment. (he could not tell me what they are doing or where)

We had an elderly neighbor pass away a couple of months ago.He has a dog but the wife never liked it and can't walk it..So my twelve year old took it upon himself and walks the dog everyday for her.Just one more thing on a long list to be proud of him.

Regarding my daughter....
Last weekend she just went up to a stranger and said "sir, thank you for serving our country" (he was in uniform). She wasn't asked to, she just wanted to. I couldn't be more proud of her. We can all learn a lot from a 9 year old!!

Yesterday we shot 150 rounds and he had hearing and eye protection....
That was just a quick "i wanna shoot my gun" moment in the middle of the family birthday party.

Har! Actually that was her Uncle teaching her. He's a retired cop and ex marine, I'll gladly defer to his expertise on this one. In fact, I'm really glad he's there to look out for her, he takes good care of her, he's been a huge help while she's in school.

At least she's out there shooting. That's great.
We shoot at 15 - 20 yards.... figure if we can hit that, anything closer should be cake...

My 21 yr old son means the planet to me. He's kind, caring, honest and considerate. Hard working and will continue to persue a mechanical engineering degree next fall. Out of state tuition prices kept him side tracked for a year.
