Hard one I know. Genre can be anything you prefer.
I choose this, because I have an emotional attachment to this solo.
Flows with the song and fits to the songs mood very well.

Ps. Kirk Hammett solos won't be eligible Laughing

One of my favorite cd's, hard to believe it's over 20 years old now! Excuse me 25 years old I had to go look, dang.

I would have to go with the obvious Jimmy Page in "Stairway to Heaven"....
or Alex Lifeson "Limelight."

The thing you young guys have to remember is that this was recorded live in 1969.

"Eruption". It changed the face of a genre, and expanded across numerous forms of music. One of the most recognizable pieces of music, ever.

Stanley Jordan is absolutely incredible.

Jeff Beck's "Cause we've ended as lover's" is usually up there in the rankings, but I've found that his song "Where were you?" does a better job of making my jaw hit the floor.

I also love some Dime!! This whole song seemed like a solo. In Rex's book, Dime's girlfriend said he made her an hour long cd of this songs riffs and she would sleep to it while he was on tour. She could not listen to it after Phil recored vocals over it pertaining to his heroin addiction.

I also think the solo for GnR's november rain was great even though I pretty much dislike the band (especially the singer). Slash had some really good ones. His guitar would sustain for days.

I really like solos that are part of the melody, Comfortably Numb, Layla, November Rain, Sweet Child of Mine are the types of solos I really like. Shredding is cool but it's not what my ear likes.

Hmmm. Too many to choose from really. Of Gilmour's stuff, I like the one in Mother best. Another of my favorites is in Metallica's To Live Is To Die. I think Hetfield actually plays that one. One other would be Angus's solo in Up To My Neck In You, I love how he goes right from the solo back into the main riff without missing a beat. The outro on Boston's Hitch A Ride is great also. Yep, too many to choose from.

Kirk Hammett is a boss for sure but James hetfield plays solo's in almost every one of Metallica's songs, he is very good to say the least, they trade off on solos.

I have a massive list too, but this still came to mind first.
Yes, the solo starts at 3:00 mark, but the song kinda goes to the solo part before that...

Yup, there are countless times where his stuff would make me go "damn, how did he make that noise come out of that guitar??"

I know this isn't gonna go over well with a few but I think Blue Sky by the Allman Brothers has one of the best solos considering the entire damn song is a solo lol damn near....... Guitar solo starts at 1:10 and stops at 4:14. Good hippie music.

This guy! too bad he died at 25 or he would be even more legendary. There are many great guitarist so this topic is somewhat opinion based.

This album is full of tasty guitar, but from a solo standpoint this one stands tall.

Dude, even after 15 years of playing I still can't nail that solo! Haha, every time I hear it it just blows me away, and he makes it look so effortless too! Bastard lol.
