I have to get a new PC. This one is 6 years old and starting to scare me. In the past I would wait until my computer died, making data xfer to the new one impossible. I just need a console and nothing turbo. I don't game. A lot of what I see out there comes with 8.1 and a free upgrade to 10. I have heard horror stories about the upgrade though.
Advice would be appreciated.

The Shop
Not really sure what's happening with my Win7 comp. It stalls out loading web pages. It eventually loads them but sumpin aint right. Could be hard drive or some effed up memory. My biggest problem is that it stalls while I'm recording live music. That's a total no go.
NOTHING, get this, NOTHING ever works like they say it will. Not for me.
Windows 10 is very similar to 8, but there are performance improvements, universal apps, and better cloud integration. However, the cloud integration aspects (like Cortana and Edge) do sacrifice some privacy. You are opted in by default to these data collection settings. I personally don't see it as being any different than they way that android and ios have been for quite some time. People are just bummed because the settings are on by default and Microsoft wasn't exactly clear that they would be from the outset. Cortana functionality is awesome though, I left most of the settings on, except for targeted ads in Edge. The edge browser is the snappiest browser I've ever used. It performs extremely well. However, the downside is that it doesn't yet support extensions. This means no ad block.
I do recommend doing a clean install after you do the upgrade. This has solved issues for myself and other people I know. (The upgrade is how you get it for free. If you just do a clean install you will have to purchase.)
Runs on chrome, I'll never go back to gates land.
well, one's a 500 gig and the other is like 300. Both laptops. i3 and i5 processors.
My main house computer still limps along on a 4+ year old XP installation. Sucks that everyone is abandoning XP but 10 is going to be good for the long haul.

Get with the latest and dont fuck with it.
Or you risk anything on it if you upgrade.
And be ready for it to be junk if you do upgrade.
I did read somewhere that 10 tracks activity....like they need more
8 sucks
Its just not worth the headaches. And even possible nightmares.
Same with phones. Each time they push an OTA upgrade....I save everything to the PC and PRAY the update doesn't brick the phone.
Dont fix what isnt broken.
There isn't any deers either.
Unless you are 2.
No, it would not bring my buttons back in settings. I sends an error and the program shuts down. I don't know what to do. I found one place to type in a help question and it was junk. jibberish
if it doesn't update go to HP's website and find the Win10 driver for your model laptop.
Here's a link to disable email notifications in Win10
