You should do the Eagle Rock Loop. It's spectacular and in your area.
I've hiked most of the Ozark Highlands Trail, thru-hiked the Foothills Trail in South Carolina, and done several sections of the AT up to West Virginia. Headed up to do the John Muir Trail in August.
Once my kids are grown and moved out, I'm planning a thru of the AT.
If any of you want to watch some spectacular hiking/backpacking documentaries, watch 'Mile, Mile and a Half' or 'As It Happens'. Some truly awesome world out there to see. We just need to learn to get out there and go find it.

Probably the PCT, which is roughly 2600 miles. It's on my list, but I wanna tackle the AT (2200 miles) first.
If any of you follow any blogs or social media pages of hikers, you need to find The Real Hiking Viking and Lost on the Appalachian Trail (Kyle Rohrig) and follow their journeys. TRHV is a damn monster. He south bound thru hiked the AT this past season and started in Maine in the dead of winter. Far as I know, he's the only one to have ever done it.
I want to go back with my friend and knock out the Buffalo River Trail, then float for a few days.
I've done Hot Springs NC to Damascus, VA. Roughly 200 miles. Took me right at 12 days. Some beautiful areas and history all along there.
