You piped in about cars, I simply showed how silly and arbitrary your argument was. Then when you used Napolitano as your expert witness and his quote included a view exactly opposite of what you had espoused, it was too ironic to pass up.

So if travel is a "natural right", and defending yourself is a "natural right", wouldn't cars and guns be in the same classification? They are each simply tools that may be used to exercise a "natural right", nothing more.

First of all me saying he was a justice was a honest mistake...I didn't do it pad my argument. He's not a justice...but, he is a JUDGE...and that's still a credible source.

The constitution is the law of the land...it stands. You disagreeing with it doesn't matter. So to try and discredit it is a ballsy move, and one that leaves you on very very very thing logical ice. But go ahead on out on that frozen lake.

The problem with your analogy? Cars (even horses, or wagons, or stage coaches) aren't specifically mentioned in the Bill of Rights...Guns are. End of discussion. That is the difference...that is why your analogy fails. .

But, as we talked about before...natural rights don't require the labor of another. Can you defend yourself without a gun? YES. On private property, public property, doesn't matter. You can. The 2nd amendment says the right to self defense (to bear arms) shall not be infringed...guns are specifically mentioned. And even though you can defend yourself without a gun, to restrict guns in any way violates the bill of rights, because you would be infringing on that right (see the difference?).

Is it possible to travel without a car? Yes, absolutely. Travel is a natural right. Driving a car is NOT a natural right, though, it can't be. It is a legal right though. First cars aren't specifically mentioned in the Bill of Rights (guns are), and it would require the labor of another person. Even if you could build the car yourself, you couldn't build and maintain the roads yourself...so driving a car can't be a natural right because it requires the labor of another person.

Go read about positive and negative rights, and legal and natural rights. Your-apparent, maybe you are just playing devils advocate here?-lack of understanding of these two concepts (and my lack of ability to adequately explain the principals) is why we aren't on the same page.
My understanding of natural rights is fine, yours appears to be flawed and influenced more by your desire than by logic. Your interpretation shows a lack of consistency that can only be brought about through cognitive dissonance.

I'll guarantee you that I was discussing positive and negative rights long before you'd likely ever been exposed to the concepts, but you definitely sound like one of those folks who just read The Fountainhead for the first time (or an overview of it anyway) and now believes that they've discovered a new chapter of the Bible.

Get back to me when you understand the difference between cars and guns. Then we can talk more.

Folks who didn't take those classes like to listen to Limbaugh, Beck, and Co. and pretend that they know what goes on in those classrooms. My social science and humanities classes were also pretty devoid of politics, but then again I went to a land grant university in the middle of wheat fields, so may have had a slightly different experience than some.

My oldest attends a very large university in Seattle, though, and he says he hasn't had anything political thrown his way. He's a math major who attends bible study and church and reports no issues with any professors, etc. In fact, he's co-authored 2 papers before his senior year so he's fairly skeptical of the rumors of academia's war on Christianity that you hear so much about.

The similarities are far more important.

Which part of the constitution specifically says "guns"?

Remember, all guns may be considered arms, but not all arms may be considered guns......

Introduction To Sociology was all about the negatives of every political system while highlighting the "positives" of socialism. We also got to watch a documentary that shit all over Kobey Bryant pretty much claiming that no women has ever lied about being raped for attention. We also got to read a political play that included the likes of Donald Trump, and other prominent businessmen that basically shit all over them. Social Psychology was about studying different political theories in society. Even my anthropology class did a better job of that then did sociology. Thank god for those Viewing a Wider World credits us engineering grads needed to boost our "world view."

Yea my sociology class sounded about like that. Except the professor said we all should drive fuel efficient vehicles instead of gas guzzlers.

Socialism is great. Blah blah blah. It's fair. Blah blah blah.

Disbanded must of went to college 20 years ago. Probably got a decent education.

I think social psychology is the equivalence of what sociology was 10 years ago.

Hate to beat a dead horse but, there were 10 stabbed at a white nationalist rally in Sacramento, a man in Santa Ana attacked his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend with a sword and a mother just stabbed her 4 kids in Memphis. All within about a week of each other. Had a discussion with a few liberal acquaintances, when I asked them if we need knife control the response was they have mental issues! NO SHIT! However switch the knife with a gun and it's a gun problem. I just don't get it. A few of them also claim to be atheist. That's fine, that's their choice. I just find it funny that if someone were to break in their house or god forbid they find themselves in a sticky situation, the first things they'll do is pray to god and call someone with a gun! Anyways, happy fourth of July!

I don't think either you or Georgie Porgie have a very good understanding of what sociology is. Under that umbrella terms there are many, many different areas of study that expand into various other fields. It sounds like the two of you took a few introductory courses and now based on your limited exposure, you're acting like you're experts.

Too much beer this evening?
What does atheism have to do with this, and how do you postulate that they will pray to a god if someone broke into their house?
Whoever did that would have to be an idiot, first rule: call the police, then pray to Allah or Odin.

Nope. Don't drink. What does beer have to do with this? Quite presumptious I'd say.

If someone breaks in my house I will protect my family and myself first and THEN call the police when its safe to do so. You can call the police and hope they get there in time Whistling

Holy fuck me sideways. Ha. What university are you an assistant professor at Sloan? My anthropology professor told me you need to dedicate yourself just two years to be considered an expert. Every job I've ever worked you're still learning how to be skilled and efficient after two years. But an expert ?

Well I've been on vital for about two to three years or so. So that must make make me an expert. Here's my stamp of approval for your bullshit that you're spewing.

Your attitude towards me has been nothing but condescending, and now you want to disparage other disciplines. "My prof told me..." That right there is your problem, learn to think for yourself instead of buying into everything you're told.

I never claimed to be an expert on sociology, or insinuated that I was an expert.

I was telling you what my college taught 60-70 percent of its student base because most students never make it past Intro To Sociology 101 as it's only required as an elective/viewing a wider world credit.

The intro courses are typically a "jack of all trades" type deal that covers as many different sub-fields as they can to "convert" as many students to that field as possible.

For example: Introduction to psychology touched on Social, Evolutionary, Clinical and Cognitive psychology. I wouldn't say I'm an expert, but I have a good grasp as to what the field had to offer.

Sociology covered Applied sociology, Cultural sociology, Human ecology, and Industrial sociology. All of them circled us back towards capitalism being "broken" and how socialism can fix it.

Some fields of study in college go by the answer of Guns, Germs and Steel. Some evolution. Sociology went by the rule of, "everything is unfair for you and socialism can fix it."

I don't watch:
Fox News
MSNBC
Rush Limbaugh or any other news source that is blatantly biased.

My view of sociology comes straight from what myself and many others have experienced first hand.
