I haven't paid anything in monthly premiums in over ten years.

I've probably paid out about $300 in prescriptions over that time frame and maybe about $1000-$1500 in dental.

Went for a cardio test a couple of months ago and there was no charge. I'll be getting an ultrasound in a week or so. No charge again. Then I have to have a small surgery to repair an abdominal hernia. Guess what? Yup, no charge for that either.

Yup, our system sucks. Did I mention I pay less in taxes than you guys too.

Oh yeah, one last thing. I can go to any GP or any hospital I want to. If I don't like the specialist I'm referred to, I can always change that too. Isn't FREEDOM great? Do you guys have that freedom? Can you quit your job and still have full coverage, or are you kind of locked into your job if you want to have good healthcare? That would suck sweaty balls.

I know a good 20 Canucks personally. None would change the small amount they pay in tax for healthcare for our fucked up garbage system.

My Insurance company cancelled me effective today.
Well about 3000 statewide.

As of now we are told hospitals have to take us for a life threatening injury...and send us down the road once stabilized.

If not life threatening, they CAN turn you away.

So tomorrow I get to start looking as right now, No coverage. If I was a welfare case, no problemo stupid taxpayer gringos!
Yeah, it's pretty hilarious. Having met a buncha Canadians in the past 2 years, they all laugh their collective asses off when the topic of Healthcare comes up. All of my fellow Americans, most of whom have never actually lived in or participated in any kind of single payer system before, think it's all a big media scam or something, while the rest of the world laughs in disbelief at how fucked up our system is. I would gladly drop 60 bucks a month to not have to worry about any of it. I could change jobs whenever I please, don't have to fear financial ruin if something unfortunate should happen, don't need to sell all my belongings to pay a hospital to bring my child into the world. None of that, for a small tax each month. Wow, just wow.

Canada ain't perfect, but it also ain't the biggest shit scam like our for-profit business model for caring for the sick and injured. I would vote for any candidate that vowed to truly uproot and fix our system, regardless of what their stance is on other issues. Just fix the Healthcare system, it is so broken, the rest of the industrialized world has a better system in place, do something like that. Please.

$60 a month? That's all in Canada ? Well hey there's no wall. It's a free semi capitalist country too. You guys should move there. Fuck up your knee then get back to us and tell us how you really feel. (Before you become a citizen of Canada be careful because they will bill you the hospital stay) But I suppose emigrating must be very easy. Back to you telling us how you really feel.... Since you'll be living proof of a better part of the world. And you can laugh at us to for just being stupid paranoid because this is all some kinda scamBlink

I'm curious...why did you pick the Midlothian area? I've lived in the metro-mess for over 30 years and know the area (dfw area) very well. If you have questions about other areas or want to know about other nice areas with acreage, let me know. The area that you are looking at is nice, but what bothers me about that area is a huge concrete plant that some consider a big detriment to the air quality. Do a little research...you can decide for yourself if its acceptable.
I've picked the Midlothian area because of the diversity of possibilities there.
The industrial background is actually something that pulls me there.
I know there are 3 separate cement/concrete plants but i do know that is not going to affect your health as long you'r not in direct contact with it. They have numerous other distribution centres in Midlothian like ,WPS,Target,Walmart,Toys R us etc etc so the diversity in job possibilities is a big plus. Maybe the most important for me is that there r numerous School's there for a very large age group as my kids are between 3 and 9 at this moment i do feel that is something that is a good benefit that all the schools they need to attend are within 10 miles from home even if the older one would need to go to high school or college.
I actually do want to talk about it and have some other questions but maybe its easier to do that on FB.

Anyone else get their 2017 Health Insurance premium notifications yet?

I got my in the mail yesterday...my premium is going from $810/month, to $1178/month. What is that? A 40% increase? Holy Smokes! Since Obamacare was enacted, though 2017, my insurance premiums have more than doubled. Affordable care act?

My agent says that the insurance companies are hemorrhaging money...due to, as anyone with a brain expected, no pre-existing condition exclusions, and no lifetime caps...and because the young healthy people who were expected to sign up due to the mandate aren't signing up...so they have no choice but to raise premiums on the people that do pay.

Midlothian is a decent place. Frisco is nice up north of there. I have family that lives in Highland Park.

Highland Park is like the suburbs of Dallas if i'm not mistaking, i think the property prices are going to be on the higher side for what we want.
I like the nice and relative silent environment and we love having a big property to play with the kids. We are still close to a big city.
So it's kind of the best of both worlds for us. We are not in the middle of nowhere still have a decent size property for a affordable price.
You guys cant believe how lucky you are to be born in USA, there would be people that literally would gave there live if they knew they could have a do over in USA. I'm one of them.

For sure you're lucky if you're born in the USA. But man you're lucky to be born in Belgium aswell! Sure, with proper education etc you're probably more likely to make a good amount of money and a really good living in the US. But over here in Sweden, and in Belgium I asume, you basically can't fail. Nice living, a few weeks of vacation every year, maybe one week in spain or two in Thailand.

However if I got a job offer over there I'd probably try it out aswell and see if it's for me or not Smile

I think a lot of people have a wrong impresion of Belgium,
I'm a project manager and make 1500€/ month, now i'm home due to a torn ACL replacement guess what i did not get 1 cent for the last 3 months because i'm not eligible for a payout because i did not have enough working days you should have atleast worked for 120 days during the last 6 months i worked 118 days i do net get 1 cent and thats the truth about Belgium, yeah sure i don't have to pay a shitload to the doctor for an acl replacement but that's normal because i payed 200€/month on hospital insurance for the last 13 years

Education is just as expansive if you want a decent degree from a decent school your paying around 800€/month for you kid to have the chances on that proper education you r talking about. Education is cheap for the time they are under 12 once above its expansive.

my annual income in Belgium is 18000€ if i would do the exact same job in Texas i would make 70000$ in annual income.
10/20/2016 8:58am
My house rent is 850€ per month my gas electricity and water is another 180€ / month another 150/month for cable TV,internet cellphone and Netflix. another 40€ in home insurance and another 200€ for hospital and family insurance
so consider that i work just to keep the monthly bills payed, My wife makes around 800€/month and we get 330€/month in child support
My 80€ leftover from my salary makes that we have 1210€ to live from
pay for all the groceries ,clothes, 1 car, gas and toys when we can afford them and sometimes save a little.

FYI the house i rent is build in 1972, if i want to buy this house in need to pay 480000€
And the house is in need of a new kitchen a new bathroom new windows (single layer glass still ) a new roof and multiple small things i don't care to mention

What it is with you people and telling people who don't have the same opinion as you on any given topic, to move somewhere else? You know you live in a "democratic" country right? The whole idea behind that is that everyone is represented, not that you get to throw anyone out who doesn't believe with you.
Nobody said the Canadian program is perfect, so stop getting your knickers in a bunch (like usual hahaha).

thats what i we have NETTO per month. From our combined annual income there we need to pay household taxes from its usually between 1800 and 2400 euro/year,
My boss needs to pay 4800/ month for me to the government so i get 1500€ from that 4800€

And yes we get paid vacation i have 20 days per year that r fixed during July its a collective closedown, and i have 6 spare once that i can take whenever i want or need one

$560K US is worth about $740K in canuck bucks though. Not really a fair comparison.

Real estate up here is definitely more expensive than Texas though.

that sounds pretty good but what do you make per month in salary, and what does the property cost in canada
I live 21 blocks from downtown on an 8000 sq ft lot and I paid about $220K for my house. It's a 1400 sq foot bungalow so if you add in the basement square footage it about 2800 square feet. I've put about $80K into renovations since I bought it and the city has it valued around $350K now. It's not in the most desirable neighborhood, but it's gentrifying quickly. Average income in my neighborhood has doubled in the last 8 years, but is still far below the nicer neighborhoods on average. One thing I still have to do is re-build the garage. Right now it's a dilapidated old single. The plan is to build a 3 car garage with a 2 bedroom garden suite above it. I still have the basement to build out on the main house though. So first things first.

I paid cash for the house after I moved and sold the building my business was running out of in BC. I also own my own business and the house is under the company name. What I earn is what my business earns. Some years are good and others, not so much.

A self employee, sounds interesting enough i have been a self employee for +10 years in renovation.

220K cash is nice if you have that amount we struggle to make ends meet from time to time, its not that we r rich by any means but i know for a fact there r a lot of people living in poverty here without you would even know, Real estate only gets sold to people that r 45 plus years old due to the fact they can pay it on there own.

People that buy a house or apartment that r under 45 years old, 80% of them gets support $$$$ from there parents or grand parents, if you want to get a loan here you need to have 20% of the cost of the house in your bank account plus a additional of 10% for registration rights, ALL CASH does not exist here.

EXAMPLE
A peace of land with no house in my little village far away from the city ( all sizes and prices converted to Sq ft and US $)
Size 7500 Sq ft
Price 208000 $
+10% 20800 $ registration rights
TOTAL 228800 $ AKA un affordable
New home building price 1950$/Sq ft ( totally finished this includes flooring, Kitchen with appliances a stair and 1 bathroom + an extra separated toilet )

Average mortgage loans hover around 2600 - 3200 $ / month depending on the size
10/20/2016 5:05pm
I forgot to adjust the Sq ft price i forget to calculate the adjustment from sq ft to m2
the price per Sq ft to build a new home is actually 175,5 $ so a house like yours would cost an additional 245700 $
