Use a good oil, run it at 40:1, and adjust your jetting for it if necessary. (Start with a clean air filter and a new plug, and a fresh tank of fuel.)

Don't worry about a little bit of black spoogey stuff. It happens.

A oil mixed at 20 to 1 ratio is not a concentrate. If, and I say if he is using a 2 cycle injector oil for a yamaha or suzuki those are a 20 wt oil. Bel ray used to have SI 7 and MC3. Suzuki had CCI, Yamaha had Yamalube 2cyle injector oil. If you premix these you premix at 24 to 28 to 1 ratio and the spooge goes away and the lubricating properties remain.
Other concentrate oils like maxima, royal purple, Bel ray, Amsoil ,synthetics are mixed at the 44 / 50 to 1 ratio and protects well. Bean oil castors are a different approach like the Blendzall, Castrol, and others . So it really depends on which oil you chose as to what ratio is correct.
What is your choice?

Good advice.

Buy a good quality brand of pre-mix and mix it at the suggested ratio of the brand of pre-mix you bought.

As a general rule, run 32:1 on 125s and 85s. 40:1 on 250s. Almost all 2-stroke oils have more than enough film strength to handle that ratio. Here's a list that I would recommend:

Bel-Ray MC-1 or H1R
Maxima K2 or Super M
Yamalube 2R

I've had good luck with all the above.

By the way, the black splooge comes from unburnt fuel/oil mixture, not necessarily from your mix ratio. Ride the bike harder or lean out the jetting a little to cut down on that.
