I am not a beginner I have been on big bikes for 2 years and rode every weekend this season on a yz250f so no I am not a beginner. Looking for advice on which on to get I am keeping my 250f to race in 250 and I want to get the 450 to race open/450 c. I am also about to start doing a training plan with a local pro so that's my main reason for getting another bike.

I'd stick with the same brand as your 250. It might make the jump back and forth a little easier.

Honestly I'd stick with a brand you have the most local support for.

.... and read the 450 shootout. .... duh.

A good friends son made the jump to 450's last season after riding a 250F and 250 2-stroke for the last three years. He went with a 15' YZ450F and loves it.

A 09-15 CRF450 fits exactly what you want. They are almost always toward the back of the pack when it comes to the motor but the handling, fit/ finish, and reliability is awesome.

I have an 09 and mostly love it. Suspension has some room for improvement but pretty much everything short of a YZ250 needs work to fit me.

I would also take in to consideration what dealers you have close to you. Although online shopping is often cheaper in a pinch on race day having a near by dealer that has parts for your bike can be a big win. Ive got a nasty 40 year old Honda dealer 10 miles from me and I have paid the "location tax" several times to keep riding in a pinch.

Yamaha. Stick with what you know. Plus it's the most reliable bike out there with the best suspension!

Really ?? You promise EVERY WEEKEND!! :-) Heres another angle if I had been riding the same bike for a few years screw it dude,if you have a shot at getting a new bike somthing NEW and DIFFERENT I say do it. NO new main brand of bike is sooo much better or sooo much worse than the other. All the new machines are fuckin quality bikes! Try somthing else!! I used to race for Langston Kawasaki I loved the way the KX felt really slim and flickable. I rippled on motherfuckers all day long on that bike. I then got the chance to race Hondas and yeah it was different it forced me to grow(not get complacent) as a racer but in the end MOTHERFUCKERS GOT RIPPED ON AGAIN!!! Basically dude its what ever color you like personally I like periwinkle:-)

If you want a novice 450, buy a ktm350sx or for a mellow 450, pretty much every brand is now coming out with ECU power maps so you can ride with a tuned power range
But if you simply want a bike for a novice rider, buy a Honda

Honda... I'm a first time 450 rider as of last year and my 14 Honda is awesome.. its got more than enough power to compete with any bike on the track, the handling is flat out excellent, its light, the suspension is good and the reliability and looks are second to none. It has the most potential to be transformed into your dream bike. Whereas a bike with odd handling, excess girth to the ergoes, massive massive hard to handle power or heavy weight and crappy suspension would be much harder to tailor to your perfect MX bike..
The only bad rap against the Honda is its a little down on power.. but trust me the CRF450 is more than capable of holeshoting other 450's and winning race.. Its darn good at putting down seriously fast laps on any track.

No brainer here the YZF 250 and 450 are the ticket, seams like the best line out there atm. And as above not having to adapt to a different brand will help.

I agree with everything said about the Hondas. 4 HP on topend is NOT going to win or lose a race at the local level. But since you already have a Yamaha, I would say stick to the same brand if youre keeping both bikes. There will be some parts crossover, your gear will match, and its just way easier to have two of the same bike brands. You cant go wrong with any of the new bikes, especially a Honda or Yamaha which are the two best brands out there year after year.

You will always have to do suspension work on every bike you buy
You will always do something to the engine, whether you need it or not

You are buying a chassis that fits your size, style and a brand that you like and trust.
