I just got a 1986 YZ125 and wanted to do some cross-country/endurocross throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire. I want to get a emergency bag because I'll only be with 2-3 guys max (this is my first season so I'll only go out with others) in the bag it seems too small for a repair kit but I haven't seen one in person. What are some must-haves in it. Also are backpacks good for long distance for food, first aid etc.

Fanny packs are the best for your application. Tools would be Phillips and flat screwdrivers a t - handle with an 8mm 10mm and 12mm ... sparkplug tool and 2 spare plugs. ... duck tape.
roll the tape onto it's self to get it as small as possible. A spare clutch lever never hurts and thats bout it. Don't worry whatever you don't bring you'll need..... so forget about packing for every possibility. Have fun

Most XC courses aren't so long that you can't push or get someone to haul your bike back to your truck. True long enduro's have a sweeper truck to go out and haul broken scooters/people in.
