Got a 9 year old that's been riding for 6 years. On a 65 now. Trying to figure out about what height he'll have to be so he can start and ride a 85 easily.

I know he could ride one now, but doubt he could pick it up and start it with Ease.

Does anyone remember what height your kid was when they were able to hold the bike on the line easily, start it easily, ect?

If you're not sure, could you buy an 85 and just keep the 65 until he's no longer riding it? Kids grow so fast I doubt he'll want the 65 much longer.

I had a 85 the season before moving up from the 60. I started riding it at open practice using blocks and that helped me out once I moved up for good.

I'm not looking to do the blocks or anything. Also, I don't want to have a 65 and 85 at the same time, we already have way too many bikes. That's why he's not getting a 85 till he can start one.

Was hoping someone would say something like "my son was able to start a 85 when he was 56" tall. Then I'd have a good idea of when he'll be ready so I can plan accordingly.

He just turned 9, so thinking one more year then 85 for his bday next year.

I jumped onto an 80 when I was around 155cm tall or so. I'm not sure if the new 85s are bigger or smaller than a 1996 KX80 though.

Why dont you just take him to a shop and have him get on one see how much he needs to grow...
