Fmf pipes

I just ordered a fmf fatty today with a shorty, not sure if it's nickel plated or not, what's better to have? Also should I get a pipe guard for it?

It will more than likely be plated unless you specifically ordered a works pipe which would be bare metal, a carbonfiber guard surely wouldn't hurt.
