The CR would be better due to weight vs power but i think not enough to be better then your own bike. I race a 07 315 HT kitted xcf-w.

You should get a paddle tire. I suggest getting a 8 paddle tire. Either bike should be ok.

I rode ithe glamis CA dunes with friends all the time on my 2008 rm250 with no problems; however, my friend's 450 thumper seemed to hook a lot better than me...

I hope this helps.

If you don't get a paddle tire then don't stop in deep sand.

I prefer a Pirelli or MIchelin sand tire cause its a little easier to turn and you won't need to pull off your roost guard. I would also recommend that you buy a filter skin, or tie a piece of panty hose around your filter and DO NOT lube your chain.

Be prepared to become a dune rat!

make sure your air filter is sealed extra good, and take extra filters to swap out (You'll see why when you are cleaning them back at home!). as for the chain, I have an O-Ring chain that I sprayed with PB Blaster to clean the chain lube off, yet keep the seals pliable. I spray it and then wipe it off really well, and I only use it for sand. Make sure the bike is thoroughly washed and regreased afterwards also!!!!

All advice is regarding safety. Safety is very important.
Helmet is most important piece of safety.
Along with a helmet, those who ride quads or bikes can also benefit from much of the same safety gear.
Safety Flag that is another extremely important safety item to have with you any time you head into the dunes.
Safety Belts is also very important like other safety things.

Check it out homie riding dunes is for most racers (depending on where you live) a special occasion. Even if all you have is a stock 250 two stroke put a paddle on that bitch and stay on the gas! Don't ride over your head. Watch out for assholes driving 15 seater sandrails. And if nothing else takes this advice when you are riding dunes the sun reflects off the sand and makes everything look flat don't pay attention and you might find yourself at the bottom of an old mine shaft.P.S when you're down there you can pick me up a nugget to pay for the advice! Sand trashes your bike, don't do it
